Well hello again, first I would like to talk about nationals this year. While 15 of the 16 deck-types were fairly predictable (I didn’t think gadgets would make it) the tech was insane and outstanding. I mean prime-material dragon, vanitys fiend, prohibition and legendary jujitsu master were there to try and mess up gladiator beasts. While gladiators were armed with things such as mind control, shallow grave, dark panther and others were there to make them faster and for mirror matches. Congrats to Chris Bowling for surviving the teched out madness and winning. Before nationals and since I have been tinkering with a deck that is so powerful controlling and consistent, for those of you that have read my previous articles u know it is burn. I heard someone compare the card Honest to being a sakuretsu armor and magic cylinder rolled up into one in a way and that u don’t have to set, and of course as a burn player it made me think how it could be used to its fullest potential while still within the confines of a burn deck. Enter Honest Burn!!! 3 shining angel 2 nova summoner 3 honest 2 mystic tomato 2 newdoria 1 sangan 1 morphing jar 2 stealth bird
3 wave motion cannon 1 level limit area b 2 messenger of peace 1 monster reborn 1 premature burial 1 swords of revealing light
3 solemn judgemnt 2 dark bribe 1 crush card virus 3 skill drain 1 gravity bind 1 ceasefire 1 magic cylinder 1 mirror force 1 judgment of anubis 1 torrential tribute
side deck 3 old vindictive magician 3 threatening roar 3 zoma the spirit 3 divine wrath 1 trap dustshoot 1 mind crush 1 needle ceiling
The Monsters: The monsters are super searchable to maintain field presence and still work with skill drain on the field. Both shining angel and nova summoner can get honest to the field which if skill drain is not active (I only activate it if I have to) I can bounce honest to my hand. Besides that effect, honest works within the skill drain concept as do all the monsters with the exception of stealth bird and morphing jar. Stealth bird can do burn damage, is a target for crush card and if nothing else is a 1700 defender which is tough to get by with stall. Morphing jar, well you have to run it in a burn deck, however I do have to pick and choose my spots as I do not want to lose honest usually. I paired the light monsters with I add a mini tomato control element with 2 tomato, 2 newdoria( monster destruction), 2 stealth bird (already explained) and sangan(I can get honest with it or whatever I need and can b used for crush)You would think only having 3 targets for crush would be bad but with the searchability of the monsters it works out. You could always replace newdorias with grave squirmers or mask of darkness if it bothered you but I enjoy the ability to attack and was going for maximum searchability with my monsters The Spells: The spells are pretty standard for a skill drain burn deck. Level limit area B, swords, and a pair of messengers provide stall and of course wave-motion cannon has to be in there for a win condition. Monster reborn was included because it can be used in almost any deck and premature, which is a surprising inclusion to some, was included because field presence and the ability to get a searcher out or to bounce honest back to my hand is priceless. The Traps: Solemn judgment, dark bribe, torrential tribute, skill drain, gravity bind, ceasefire, and magic cylinder are pretty much staples in the skill drain burn deck as they are the meat of what stalls and well burns and of course skill drain which its named after. Crush card was included because it can really help obviously in dealing with big threats. Wall of revealing light is a card that really can stall out a game and has always done awesome things for me. Judgment of anubis takes out a couple big cards for game one in MST and Heavy storm and can also be a huge burn source. It can easily be replaced by a third bribe. Side Deck: The side deck provides three things mainly. These things are cards against the current metagame (old vindictive magician, threatening roar, divine wrath) , other sources of burn (dimension wall, zoma the spirit) and a little bit more control (dustshoot and mind crush) OVM can easily b replaced by legendary jujitsu master but I like that I can use it with crush card. The burn sources can also be changed but I used what I liked best Deck Matchups: This deck can do a lot of tricks that frankly most decks in this current game cannot handle. In testing it it has easily defeated GBs, DAD, and lightsworn and even monarchs. It can play very aggressive but also has great defensive and control abilities. It really depends on the duelist. You could easily build a more beatdown version with Majestic Mech ohkas and mained zomas . If you dont have crush you could also go with cyber dragons and reflect bounders and mecha dogs for a weird machine light burn deck.Something like this
2 majestic mech ohka 2 cyber dragon
3 shining angel 3 nova summoner 3 honest 3 cyber valley 1 sangan 2 reflect bounder 1 mecha dog marron
1monster reborn 1 premature burial 2 book of moon 2 creature swap 1 limiter removal
3 solemn judgment 2 dark bribe 3 skill drain 2 zoma the spirit 1 magic cylinder 1 torrential tribute 1 mirror force For me I love the first one the most. Please I encourage you to build this deck and then tell me how you do with it

Hello again and welcome inside my brain. This deck combines 2 of my favorite monsters in Destiny end dragoon and jinzo returner. This deck can hit the field fast and also no one has experience in facing it. Well though I feel it speaks for itself let me break it down
The monsters: It combines jinzo returners with dheros. Cyber dragon is there for chimeratech and also added field presence. 3 plasma 3 dogma 1 disc commander 2 malicious 1 stratos 1 fear monger 3 jinzo 3 jinzo returner 2 cyber dragon
The spells: Mainly the spells are either part of the combos (future fusion) or draw cards(allure, ddraw) and also the basic semi-staples (reborn, heavy storm). Running 3 plasma and 3 dogma allow me to run trade in as well as d-draw and allure. Card destruction is added as anything that can go through cards is a good thing. Card of safe return may b the most odd choice but with jinzo returner, fear monger and dragoon with reborn and premature it seems to work, for someone else they could b dropped for say more machine support 3 d draw 2 allure 1 future fusion 1 heavy storm 1 monster reborn 1 premature burial 2 reinforcement of the army 1 card destruction 2 trade in 3 card of safe return 1 overload fusion 2 fusion gate
The traps: Chain material is crazy with dragoon and being able to get 3 on the field in a turn is amazing. With 7 targets, crush card is an easy add and torrential is a semi-staple 3 chain material 1 crush card virus 1 torrential tribute fusion deck: not much to say as it is the key cards of the deck obviously chimeratech 2 destiny end dragoon 3
side deck: Basically the side deck is cards that complement the deck but also included are roars and solemns to matchup against the opponents. 3 dealings 2 foolish burial 3 threatening roar 3 solemn judgment 3 goldd 1 morphing jar
Conclusion: This deck can really hit the field fast and accomplish a lot. Someone please take it a version of this to Nats!!!!

Hello again, well nationals is only twelve days away and I am here ot inspire those of you that are going to run something unique and that also is a strange matchup for the rest of the meta namely DAD and glad beasts. I came up with three decks that I really think can compete and possibly even dominate. Of course tweaking it to fit your style is very important. Well without further blabbering here is the first deck.
3 angel 07 1 guardian of order 3 sky scourge invincil 3 jinzo 2 cyber dragon
1 marshmallon 1 spirit reaper 3 gellenduo 3 kaiser sea horse 1 treeborn frog 1 herald of creation
3 soul exchange 1 brain control 1 monster reborn 2 foolish burial 1 premature burial 1 mst 1 heavy storm
1 torrential tribute 1 mirror force 3 solemn judgment 3 threatening roar
As you can see it is an a control deck through negation using sky scourge invincil and angel07 as well as jinzo. To support these cards are numerous cards that are light fairy and cannot b destroyed by battle. Angel07 locks gladiator beasts down as well as several elements of other decks as do jinzo and sky scourge. this deck may need the most tweakin but i could really see a build similar to this goin very far. Well if you dont like that you can try
Deck 2 3 bountiful artemis 2 dimensional alchemist
2 harvest angel 3 ryko 3 legendary jujitsu master 1 morphing jar 3 honest 1 dd warrior lady 2 book of moon 1 heavy storm 1 monster reborn 1 premature burial 3 phoenix wing wind blast 2 threatening roar 3 solemn judgment 3 dark bribe 3 divine wrath 3 magic drain
This deck is similar to jerome mchales counter fairy deck with a little more teched for against gladiator beasts and lightsworn. Its very aggressive while also being able to cripple opponents strategies with counters and disruption. Its a deck that is all about changing the pace and if you are an experienced duelist which if you are going to Nats. you should be, you will find it as a very strong contender. If that is not out there enough for you then please try
Deck 3 2 des koala 1 m jar 1 marshmallon
Traps: 1 Torrential Tribute1 ojama triothis is a deck that simply no one is prepared for and speaking from personal experience this deck is super quick and consistent what your opponent is running really doesnt matter most of the time. Well hope to see it in the top 16

Well first I would like to say that I personally recommend anyone to read my last article haha. Now then I want to take this time to address the debate that is are the lightsworn worth using and can they be top tier. My answer is an overwhelming yes!!! However I think at this point that the build most are using with judgment dragon are way overrated and not very well balanced decks. Although they can pull off amazing moves most of the time, the current build is not consistent enough to deal with something like gladiator beasts. This with the fact that I cannot run out and buy three judgment dragons made me think how can you use these wonderful cards. Well for Ryko, Lightsworn hunter the answer is simple. He is incredibly splashable into decks from Jinzo, zombies, beasts, etc. This lead me to the idea that maybe they could be highly splashable and from testing they are. One fatal flaw to the current builds i have seen are they are too reliant on getting the monsters out that have milling abilities. However if combined with a deck that can go periods without the milling but can also explode with it. So I came up with several ideas and variants Lightsworn zombie- crazy explotation of the graveyard DHero lightsworn- crazy drawpower with ddraw and recharges volcanic Lightwsworn- incredibly balanced and destructive Lightsworn monarch- probably the most consistent lightsworn DDT- craziness when it worked Beast lightsworn-really solid I did not want to put out the decklists as the cards were nothing above average or out of the ordinary and yet the way most of them worked together was extraordinary. This goes along with the ideal from my last article of trying things on ones own. However I will say all of these ideas can work with some tweaking and thats for yall to figure out. I mean dont you want to see the good guys win

Hello again. Its been awhile as I have been busy with other things (yes I have a life outside of yugioh) Let me first start by saying I am glad that the format has changed with both the added restrictions on the list and also the introduction of the new set. However I see many duelists now having no idea what to run or going out and spending tons of money that they have never used and don’t quite know what to do with. I am here to spread insight to this issue and make it to where you do not have to run out and spend hundreds or thousands each time a new deck comes along. I can by no means make yugioh cards cheaper as if I could I would be a shonen champion by now. By understanding the problems though you can find a solution that will provide you something competitive, fun and also affordable over the long-haul. The first problem I would like to discuss is one that goes far beyond yugioh (yes there are things beyond it!!) It is an American cultural epidemic called the copycat factor aka thinking like a zombie. We are classically conditioned to believe that if something worked for someone else it will work for us and also that if something does not work for someone else it will not work for us. We also do not think outside of the box we are relegated to. Many people, who can afford to, just buy the deck list of a shonen champion without taking in several factors of play style, possible stacking or cheating, other synergies the deck may have, and the opponents it faced. Just because you have a Jerry Wang deck that he won a shonen with does not mean you will play like him or that you have the possibility of winning a shonen. For example, not to be conceited or anything but I’m a great burn deck player and can using several different styles of burn decks very well. I think it has to do with the idea of accomplishing the final goal of doing 8000 damage and it goes with my personality that is very direct. My friend Eddie on the other hand likes to toy with opponents and do things in very different ways and manipulate the opponent. He is an awesome gladiator beast player. Now Eddie could play and win with burn and I could probably do the same with gladiator beasts but to maximize full potential we should do what fits us best. The second problem is adaptability. It is true that the game is ever changing and we need to evolve in our thinking and in this case in some of the cards we use and also what we most likely will face. However duelists tend to over adapt and throw out ideas that are not broken. When phantom darkness came out everyone who could drop the Perfect circle deck with light and darkness and/or plasma for Dark return and just now are people realizing that you can combine light and darkness with dark armed dragon to make a nasty control deck. I think Jerome McHale illustrated this perfectly as he took a classic ideal (counter fairies) and updated it with things that would further exploit his goals (honest and ryko) to make a particularly dangerous deck. It is important that we understand what the focus of our deck is instead of just going on hype. For example, I have heard numerous people say burn decks are dead. I completely disagree because there are still great burn players out there as well as cards that still do burn. I mean though it has not made the very top at a shonen lately, different burn variants such as James Pennicott in Anaheim or Brandon Thieben in Nashville made a huge impact. A deck very rarely dies unless it is due to A) the ban-list demolishes it (Demise, Chaos) or people quit seeing it as a way to win. With changes however most concepts that has been at the top before can be with a few edits and a knowledgeable duelist. I mean if you are a burn player and glad beasts keep beating you try deck lockdown or if you play zombies and the new rulings are killin you try rykos. This brings me to the last part of the problem and that is the lack of knowledge and work ethic most duelists have. I understand the casual player who plays every once in a while not understanding synergy and how decks really work and not being able to build a good deck but I have seen from experience that people who play for hours at least a couple times a week who are very for lack of better words ignorant. Now I understand that there are several tough rulings out there but a generic knowledge of the advanced rulings such as timing and spell speed would be nice. I have a few examples and they all are from the college I go to who play and are seriously horrible duelists and they each have a problem. Having seen this I have made some rules that every good duelist should follow Rule 1 Just because you own a card does not mean it belongs in a deck/ stay precise and within yourself. If you have 6 or 7 decks and none are that great- build one Rule 2 just because a card says it supports a deck theme or came in a structure deck with it does not mean it is the best option Rule 3 Read the advanced rulings Rule 4 Be sure of yourself at most times not always saying I’ll probably do this and also please don’t constant complain about how you need a card because yugioh isn’t a basic need of life Rule 5 Know your own cards at least and what they can do!! Yugioh like anything is simple if you want to be good at it, practice it well. I mean I am a very good deck builder and it’s because of two things one) I understand concepts and what works together and two) I have practiced and have learned from mistakes. In conclusion I would like to thank you who made it through my rant and also bared with me for going deep (I’m a psych major who has taken several philosophy classes so yea) I would also like to leave you with a deck that I thought was amazing and awesome for today’s meta. Some of you will be like this is sorry and some of you will get it and be like whoa that’s insane and build upon it. If you do let me know how it did 3 Restructer Revolution 1 Scapegoat 2 Dark Room of Nightmare 3 Poison of the Old Man 2 Chain Energy3 Ookazi 3 Meteor of Destruction 3 Tremendous Fire 1 Chain Strike 1 monster reborn
Traps: 3 Dimension Wall 3 Fire Darts 2 Reckless Greed 1 Mirror Force 3 Secret Barrel 3 Just Desserts 1 Ceasefire 1 Magic Cylinder 1 Torrential Tribute I told you I was a burn player

Well after my last article i'd like to apologize. See after much more indepth playtesting I realized the decks that I recommended didn't fair well against the DAD return deck. The only one that did was the bazoo deck but that follows almost the exact same strategy and I am here to promote diversity in this game which is tough when one deck is so broken. i do still stand behind the volcanic gadget and oppression burndecks as they do matchup well with dark decks however they do not work well against samurai decks which are tending to be the "answer" to DaD return. Let me tell you that Samurais arent consistent enough to compete with the Dark deck for the masses in my opinion (sorry johnathan moore). This was really hurting my internal want for the underdog to win and thats when it really hit me. If you want to defeat them on a constant basis, you have to be very aggressive and also be able to stop game-changing moves. You have to be more chaotic than what people are deeming the new chaos deck
It really made me wonder though what deck can handle something so volatile and can keep regenerating and being a constant presence. The idea i came up with and will show you is with gadgets, i mean once they are summoned you get another right, but this is not the average oppression gadget deck as it doesnt even run oppressions as it doesnt work against samurais very well or other gadget decks. No this deck would need so much mass destruction so that it would make it hard for the dark player to manage
Gadget Chaos
2 Cyber dragon 2 dark dust spirit
2 red gadget 2 green gadget 2 yellow gadget 1 sangan 1 treeborn frog 1 elemental hero stratos 2 fear monger 1 disc commander
3 lightning vortex 2 foolish burial 1 premature 1 monster reborn 3 creature swap 1 heavy storm 1 mystical space typhoon 2 enemy controller 2 reinforcement of the army
2 bottomless traphole 3 solemn judgment 1 torrential tribute 2 dust tornado
Side deck 3 needle ceiling 1 limiter removal 3 sakuretsu armor 3 kinetic soldier 3 dd crow 2 dark bribe
As you can see the deck simply focuses on destruction. The thing i love most is the inclusion of dark dust spirit because it destroys everything but then leaves the scene. It reminds me of my old sacred phoenix deck with the loop of destruction, however we need something much faster this format and the fact is that todays magics and traps are mainly offensive so you can get some damage in. I included the dhero circle for some more consistency and deck thinning as well as for more uses of creature swap which i find as really good with gadgets. This deck definitely accomplishes the purpose of maintaining your hand while making the field chaotic so that the average dark player cannot manage their g-yard well. It also runs solemns to stop the big return from happening while also running a pair of dust to prevent it earlier. The side deck mainly is just other forms of destruction(needle ceiling is broken this format) and negation. The principles of the philosophy behind this deck are very simple destroy and its a fairly cheap deck to construct. Try it out at your next local. and attack on. Try it youll like it
As everyone who follows yugioh knows, the dark armed dragon return deck has taken over the scene. i mean 26 of the top 32 decks at Costa Mesa contained the dark armed dragon. Also as i previously stated where does that leave the financially challenged player at even the local level. Since it is Spring Break for me, I have had time for these thoughts to brew and i have thought of a few decks that can possibly provide competition to the dragon return deck. As i kept thinking it soon became visible that decks that used to do really well were many of the decks i was thinking of but simply evolved. Heres my top 5 not including burn or volcanic gadget. Also though there are some very expensive cards in my decks shown, none of them are absolutely necessary as you can play around with cards but use the same concepts. These are mainly just overviews of decks i'll be covering in future blogs
5 Zombies It seems like it was just a couple months ago that zombies were the in thing that was feared at every shonen. Wait it was. Its just that zombies were not that consistent and also had problems dealing with monsters bigger then the standard 2400. I think that the zombie player needs to throw more tricks in their sleeve and I have mainly two builds for this- these are just general builds to show the goal, my advice is to try whatever you can. (O as a noteI also wont be covering oppression gadgets or samurais as many others have spent time on those.)
Build 1 3 ryu kokki 1 il blud 2 dragon ice
3 zombie master 3 goblin zombie 3 pyramid turtle 1 morphing jar 1 card trooper 1 spirit reaper
3 book of life 3 card of safe return 1 monster reborn 1 premature burial 3 creature swap 1 foolish burial 3 lightning vortex 1 torrential 1 mirror force 3 raigeki break 2 phoenix wing wind blast
This deck just trys to abuse card of safe return but also tries to swarm the field consistently. Dragon ice and goblin zombie r husge and make this deck a highly explosive build.
Build 2
Im not going to put an exact decklist for deck two but instead of the ices and goblin zombies it use green baboon, giant rats and nimbles. While it is similar to the first build it adds much more consistency and staying power to the field.
4 Bazoo Dark Return Again im not going to post a build yet but just think about your matchups with dark decks most of the time it is not the dark armed dragon that kills you but the return. Bazoo is a more consistent(dont have the drawback of having to manage your graveyard) alternative that i could see winning at the top level. i mean you dont have to manage your graveyard so you can go even further on speed and run merchants with the other dark monsters.
3 Horus decks Ok is it just me or are the dark decks and most decks today fueled by spells. Also most of the time they take a turn or two to really get rolling. If you can bring horus level 8 to the field faster then they can bring the dragon and tech out he dragon build with things such as solemn judgment,d.d. crows and my body as a shield. Or you could run full lockdown with destiny hero plasma and jinzos. Some other tech cards I could see would be level modulation (with foolish, its funny) also a dragon heavy build can be really funny with five headed dragon
2 Phantom explosion Again not posting a decklist yet but the key is like regular magical explosion but instead of using d heros combine it with a phantom deck using phantom of chaos. More to follow in another blog
1 counter fairy
Yes its true, counter fairy is a timeless deck that can give fits to any deck just based on the cards. ill cover more in another blog as to how to increase speed and relevance but yea
My advice is simply to try everything or go out and spend

Since the release of phantom darkness, yugioh has been dominated by dark armed dragon. At first I did not like him because i figured it was too difficult to manage only having three dark monsters in the graveyard consistently but boy was i wrong. people r running him in a dark armed dragon return deck but i have also seen him in DDT and even a weird dragon build. they are managing their graveyards so well and also have so much speed, the evil reign of the dragon seems like it may last the whole six months.
I dont know about you guys but i neither have the money nor want to spend that kind of money on yugioh. However i want to win at tournaments and as the tournament i most often plays in does have some high-rolling dark armed dragon carriers, I need to be prepared. At first I thought of just siding tech cards for it such as bottomless trap hole, black horn of heaven and shadow-imprisioning mirrors. the problem is a good player can play around those cards and also will have the combos of the deck far more often then i was going to have the tech card. I had to do something more to be able to compete with people spending close to a thousand dollars on cardboard with a shiny picture(hey i probably would if i could too) but that was not an option. Even Chris Moosmans exodia build is ridiculously expensive for a fun alternative. What was i gonna do?
Well I had to go back to my favorite type of deck which is burn! Most people find burn slow and annoying but i have always enjoyed it and the last deck i did really well with was a version of odyssey burn. I think that that deck relies on crush card too much in this format and i wont have one till march 26th. I was reading up and also talking to people who went to costa mesa and started hearing about different tech that people were using. i tripped upon James pennicotts burn build and was instantly inspired. I took the ideals of that deck and threw in my own unique flavor
Anti-Dragon burn 2 des koala 3 stealth bird 2 injection fairy lily 2 exiled force 1 card trooper 1 morphing jar 2 giant rat
3 wave motion cannon 2 book of moon 1 level limit area b 1 swords 1 scapegoat 1 monster reborn
3 royal oppression 1 gravity bind 3 solemn judgment 2 dark bribe 1 torrential tribute 2 dimension wall 1 judgment of anubis 2 pulling the rug 1 ceasefire 1 magic cylinder 1trap dustshoot
Side 2 kinetic soldier 2 shadow imprisioning mirror 3 black horn of heaven 1 mind crush 2 mask of restrict 1 neo spacian groundmole 1 giant trunade 1 mystical space typhoon 2 dd crow
this deck aims to do burn and do it quickly while also trying to prevent the moves of other players as much as possible. The big attackers of the deck like lily and trooper can attack under level limit area b or gravity bind. Giant rats are added for the searchibility factor as they can fetch exiled, trooper or lily. So far in online matchups the deck has done very well against the main types of decks out there especially dark armed dragon decks as it is teched out for him. It also plays well against gadget decks and monarch decks so if i play others i can still frustrate and win. The side is used to even more expose the weakness of a deck and to further prevent and control the field. If i know no one is using decrees at a tourney i swap out the mst and ground mole for two needle ceilings. Also marshmallon and spirit repaer are excellent additions but im very picky about having only 40 cards in a deck. For anyone who wants a cheaper alternative to dark armed dragon return and enjoys burn and quick damage then this may be the deck for you

Well first I'll give the decklist, then i'll describe it to yall.
3 lonefire blossom 3 gigaplant 2 blazewing butterfly 3 thunder dragon
1 future fusion 3 dragons mirror 3 mass driver 3 magical mallets 3 upstart goblin 3 hand destruction 1 card destruction
3 reckless greed 3 jar of greed 3 good goblin housekeeping 3 legacy of yata garasu
Fusion 3 superalloy beast raptinus
As metagame.com pointed out a couple of weeks ago, the point of this deck is to have the gigaplants keep getting each other and then being tributed for mass driver in a lock that is possible with the superalloy beast on the field. Lo and behold that the fusion is a dragon so he can be brought out verily easily with dragons mirror. the four cards necessary to win are lonefire blossom, mass driver, future fusion and dragons mirror. If two gemini monsters(preferably two blazewing butterflies) are sent to the graveyard by the effect of hand destruction or card destruction then you dont need future fusion.
This build of the deck is set up much like an exodia turbo deck except the good thing ids that multiple copies of each necessary piece with the exception of future fusion are allowed. Standard draw cards are put in to the deck to search out the pieces. I put the thuder dragons into generate the plus when discarded or to combo with magical mallet. I recommend this deck to anyone who enjoys one turn kills and also any veteran who wants to be able to say they won with plants. This deck can be a very scary matchup at a tourney because you dont know what is going to happen and if youll get stuck in the venus fly trap.
