And the green Planeswalker....

There we have it. Brion seems very very good to me. A Gruul staple alongside the likes of Solifuge and Burning Tree Shaman. I think he would sit quite nice at the top of the curve. Summon the Schools is a poor man's Sprout Swarm and Warren Pilferers will be a limited staple.

But the Planeswalker. I'm going to go on record as saying this guy is better than Liliana Vess. He effectively costs 2 because of the +1 ability (you can use one ability on each of your turns at sorcery speed, included the turn you cast it) and he Overruns the next turn!

As an aside, I want to offer a big pat on the back to Robin - most of his predictions were pretty spot on according to Inquest. To clarify...

Summary of how Planeswalkers work:

-Planeswalkers come into play with Loyalty counters equal to their loyalty

-You can use one of their abilities once per turn, including the turn
they come into play for the loyalty cost/benefit. (Although the article
doesn't say it, it would seem to be that it is only on your turn,
otherwise Liliana Vess easily locks your opponent out once they have no
cards left in hand)

-When a Planeswalker has 0 loyalty it goes to your graveyard

-You can attack planeswalkers with creatures to reduce their loyalty

-If a spell or ability would deal damage to a player you can choose for it to hit one of that players planeswalkers instead

-You can have multiple Planeswalkers in play at a time, just not ones with the same subtype

Damnit, good call Falkor. Brion just looks green and red to me... I totally decided to see what I wanted to see there. I still think he'll find a deck.

Brion doesn't work in Gruul, since it is Red and White, which makes it a lot more interesting to discuss.

Garruk is playable, but it is terrible against Incinerate and now Lash Out (which I think is going to see a ton of play!).  That is a strong effect, but the 3 loyalty is going to be an issue.  This may make Liliana more playable, but I still am not sure about Planeswalkers as a whole.

Nice find Sin_Plague - for some reason those pics aren't showing up, but you can check them out here (they are about 2/3 of the way down the page): http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgevent/jpnat07/welcome

From BDSM's coverage on the Japanese Nationals...

Lash Out - 1R
Instant
Common

Deal three damage to target creature. Clash with an opponent. If you win it deals three damage to that creature's controller. (Each clashing player reveals the top card of his or her library then puts that card on the top or bottom. A player wins if his or her card had a higher converted mana cost)

And the gold card…

Wydwen, the Biting Gale - 2UB
Legendary Creature - Faerie Wizard
Rare
Flash
Flying
UB, Pay 1 Life: Return (this) to its owner's hand.
3/3

Yes, very true. Didn't think that through.

But incinerate is an instant - assuming their abilities use the stack you just incinerate in response, or wait until your turn - again assuming that abilites are "As a sorcery".

Not quite Ronin. As soon as you cast him, you use the +1 ability and he is out of Incinerate reach.

"If a spell or ability would deal damage to a player you can choose for it to hit one of that players planeswalkers instead" Oh this guy is actually hurt pretty badly by this at only 3 loyalty. 1 incinerate offs him.

PS - Looks like it was Garruks fist that was busting through that poster

Yeah, 3 3/3s over 3 turns for 4 seems good. I assume planeswalker also survive wraths etc. This guy garauntees the threat of pressure and he can always project himself with an elephant so he'll be touch to remove. Green players rejoice.
