The Future of Gadgets ???

Gadget deck, a nice little anti-meta deck that's affordable by alot of people and it works really great against most decks but recently, i didn't really see any great archievement out of Gadget.

In the past few SJC, Kaiba and DAD dominated the meta and Gadget didn't appear.
"But why??? They got Banisher, Royal Oppression, Kycoo and even Protector of the Sanctuary !!!" - 1 of my friend asked me.

Well, the problem is that gadget are fairly slow and before Gadget player can get some of those cards, it's already GG !!! or when your opponent pull out the Gadget-hate monster, Jinzo...

With the release of Light of Destruction, LightSworn would be the new DAD. In Japan, LightSworn has already made an big impact and they often combine Judgment Dragon with Herald of Creation.

Let's have a look how some of the gadget deck's key cards go against the LightSworn:

-Protector of the Santuary (In Lightsworn, the only draw power would be Solar Recharge, so this guy is out)

-Banisher of Radiance (this guy make sure your opponent don't have any Lightsworn in the grave so that he/she cannot summon Judgment Dragon)

-Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer (pretty much same with Banisher)

-Royal Oppression (Negate the summon of Judgment Dragon, but Lightsworn has plenty of cards effect to destroy this)

-D.Prison
-Bottomless

So my conclusion is that Gadget without Protector of Sanctuary.... would have a chance go against Lightsworn with plenty of removal power while DAD still get outspeed by Lightsworn.

But still, the speed of Lightsworn are still too fast for Gadget, so it requires Gadget player to have the luck to draw the right cards...

But, don't forget 1 deck that doesn't affect by D.D. but still have lightning speed to go against LightSworn. And that is Kaiba FTW....

My thought:
1) Kaiba FTW
2) LightSworn
3) DAD
4) Anti-meta Gadget

I know this is fairly short but i hope that you guys enjoy reading this !

Oh yeah, another anti-meta card has released in the Light of Destruction and that's "Fossil Dyno", it stops your opponent from special summoning and it can kill monsters that has already summon onto the field. With Dark Bribe and Solemn, it shouldn't be too hard to keep it onto the field. But, once again, in a Gadget deck, it's all depends on the card you draw on your first few turns.

05/07/2008 05:02:52 Ummm you mean Banisher??? Ofcourse a anti-meta deck should have Banishers. I've listed them in the article above.

05/06/2008 19:19:35 alsi you forgot to add but 3 banashers as of today should be a staple in all gadget decks only because it literally slows down lightsworn to the max by not letting them using their mill effect. With out their mill effect lightsworns will not be able to set up for judgment dragon and if lightsworn doesnt set up by turn 2-4 they will loose most of the time.

I agree, Old-school gadget builds are a little slow, and there's a lot of ways to play around oppression, which is why I think the gadgets have another home, and that's in a machine-turbo deck. The way I see it, if gadgets don't attack, they don't need shrink. Gadgets can be used as utility monsters, to either thin the deck or build up a machine swarm or chimeratech OTK, and yes, before anyone starts, it is possible now, to keep pace with DAD and Lightsworn with a machine deck. (The trick is to steal their moves, but that's not important)

LODT gave us two new cards that can fit into machine decks (with or without gadgets, but preferably with as I like the little guys) the first is Jinzo - Returner, however the more important one is DUCKER Mobile Cannon, the flip effect can bring back any 4 star monster, just like our colored gadget buddies helpfully restoring both hand and field presence because the gadgets will find each other no matter how they hit the field.

I'm not sticking my gadgets in the binder just yet, I think they still have some tricks left and I think the new machine support is enough to make a day 2 showing again soon.

05/05/2008 08:41:14 Nice article. I like Gadgets, but they are quickly becoming less and less relevant to the current meta. I also agree with you on the fact that if Gadgets where to make a comeback, they could have to contend with Lightsworn. It's just too fast for Gadget players to control. Cheers.
