Enemy Colors Confirmed and First Eventide Spoiler
Posted On: 06/06/2008 00:42:48

Actually, all in one:

Follow this link for the Eventide Booster preview: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=magic/preview/evepack

Scroll over the Overbeing for her card text.

A smidge underwhelming, compared to her godlike bretheren, but a Maro certainly loves to pack its own card drawing. Let the Eventide spoiler season officially commence!

It is a cool card, but I don't think it will find a home. Just feels to slow and vulnerable for play in T2.

this card gets an emphatic........."eh"

but house in limited, however..

Probably not playable, and the worst of the hybrid deuses thus far.

It's a blank topdeck, so it's got that going against it (imagine it getting killed by hand destruction), and RoninX did mention that it had no evasion and stares dumbly at bitterblossom tokens. Chronicler, at the very least, draws you a card no matter what, and has haste so that it can attack without having to survive one of your opponents' main phases.

Accelerating him out turn 3, you're expending 6 cards from your hand (5 mana sources and him), so on the play with no muls (or on the draw with 1 mul), he's at 3 toughness and in range of incinerate and nameless inversion, on top of terror, black pact, and shriekmaw. He'll be safer accelerated with a scryb ranger, but still, he's incredibly vulnerable.

Sure, he's mono-green card draw, but then so is magus of the library. He's not quite as bad as that, but still the worst of the deuses thus far, and I think unplayable.

I'm glad there'll be enemy colors.

@charlesovery: Correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought Timespiral/Coldsnap rotates out when Eventide is released.

hey look, it's aeon chronicler...in green, so accel is easy. and it's a potentially huge card advantage engine for no extra mana...

some kind of mono-green control with harmonize and ohran perhaps?

The problem, as I see it, is a lack of evasion. All of the other "gods" had evasion of some kind. Even Oversoul essentially cannot be blocked by 60% of creatures. That said, this guy does offer card draw to mono green, and could easily be accellerated out on turn 3, just in time to refill your hand (if it doesn't meet a terror).

Its growing on me, but I don't see an existing place for it...

This could actually see a lot of play perhaps before the Timespiral block rotates out.

I don't think it's that bad actually, it's not as if Demigod is being widely played. i think this will see play, blue has some half decent draw at the moment.
