W/G/u Big Mana: 4th at FNM
Posted On: 03/28/2008 11:02:52

Seeing as how I've got down time at every one of my jobs, I figured that it might not be a terrible idea to bring a blog together where my team and I can showcase our decks and we can hopefully get some good feedback.

With that introduction out of the way, lets move onto the meat of the blog. Here's the W/G/u Big Mana list I played to 4th at FNM:

3x Cloudthresher
2x Crovax, Ascendant Hero
3x Aeon Chronicler
1x Akroma, Angel of Wrath
3x Primal Command
4x Mwonvuli Acid Moss
4x Search for Tomorrow
4x Wall of Roots
4x Wrath of God
3x Condemn
3x Garruk Wildspeaker
4x Harmonize
1x Murmuring Bosk
2x Island
12xForest
7x Plains

Sideboard:
1x Jedit Ojanen of Efrava
2x Reach of Branches
4x Hail Storm
2x Feudkillers Verdict
4x Oblivion Ring
2x Mystic Enforcer

Notes about the Sideboard:

Jedit is for your Warrior/Elves Matchup, he himself is unblockable, and he brings friends that are too.
Reach is for the Control Matchup, eventually you can start to force them through or exhaust your opponent's counters.
Hail Storm is Wraths 5-8.
Verdict is for the random aggro match (like elves), that you can stabilize after a Wrath with)
Oblivion Ring was for troublesome enchantments (Blossom, Other Rings, etc.)
Enforcer was to be an Akroma and Crovax, forgot them on my way to the tournament. Thery are still decent against Doran and can be good against control.

Round 1: Wizards.

Game 1 He starts randomly countering my threats, but I'm able to Acid Moss one of his lands and he has to either play creatures or keep mana up for counters. I get myself to where I have two cloudthreshers, force him to tap out at the end of his turn and force another through. This also gets my Chronicler in from being suspended, and soon he is forced to chump block into oblivion.

Game 2 He has to mull to 5 and is forced to keep a hand of 2x Nimbus Maze and 1x Adarkar Wastes. His only play is a Stonybrook Banneret before I Acid Moss away his colored mana.

Round 2: Rogues with Shared Animosity

Game 1 I get no actions (sans a Search for Tomorrow), for quite a while. In the meantime, he drops t2 Blackguard, t3 Banneret, t4 banneret, forcing me to go down to just 2 cards in hand. Unfortunately for him, those 2 cards are a Plains and a Crovax; I untap, drop the crovax, and basically put a halt to his plans. I finally get to start rebuilding and progressing my game plan, and he concedes when I have 3x Aeon Chroniclers removed at 1 counter each, have just Acid Mossed his last land, and have 6 cards in hand.

Game 2 I keep a hand with Crovax (and more accel than the last game). He still ges a t2 Bitterblossom into t3 Earwig Squad (taking 2 Wraths and the other Crovax). I play My Crovax, basically killing him and his deck, and spend the rest of the game with 2 hail storms in my hand in case he ever gets rid of Crovax and attempts to attack. Akroma seals the deal.

Round 3: Merfolk

Game 1 is a long, drawn out affair where I am able to play against his control routes with 3 Primal Commands (gaining 21 life and sometimes Time Walking his Faerie conclave, sometimes finding a Thresher). Eventually I kill him while I am at 3 life.

Game 2 He does the random Merfolk Affinity thing where he has 2 Reejerys and starts playing his entire hand for free (essentially). I can't get even close to stabilizing.

Game 3 is much like Game 1, with 1 key difference. He rips like a House and just kills me that way. In the last couple of turns, I drop an Akroma, and swing for 12 (I have 2 Beast Tokens) and he spends about 3 minutes deciding not to block. He proceeds to topdeck Sower, and Takes my Akroma to Crack back for 14 (I'm now at 4). I wrath the board, Acid Moss his Faerie Conclave (I don't have a flying blocker, and makes a new beast. He pulls some card, and passes the turn. I swing to put him at 1, make a beast, and EOT he plays venser to bounce my token and give himself 4 points of damage (he also has a mutavault). Somehow I couldn't rip a single condemn or Hailstorm.

Round 4: Kithkin/White Weenie

Game 1 he doesn't get any real action going, and I'm able to just aggro out and kill him. About the only notable plays are a Crib Swap on my Akroma from him, and a wrath when he has 3 creatures from me.

Game 2 He gets a very good start, with Cenn's Tactician into Meadowgrain into Captain into Swing (putting Baloonist into play). I play Hailstorm and 4-for-1 him, and his plays of Kinsbaile Borderguards get hit by wraths (in the off chance that he can untap with re-inforce to give him more guys should I need to wrath). Eventually I have 10 mana (through Garruk, and play double Primal Command (both choosing to find Chronicler and putting a plains on top) to his empty board. Next turn a suspend chroniclers at 1 and 2 respectively, and win the game.

Round 5: Reveillark

Game 1 he mulls to 4. It wasn't even really a game, as I executed my game plan perfectly.

Game 2 I keep a hand with a lot of Tempo disruption. Unfortunately, he gets the uber aggro start and kills me turn 5.

Game 3 he mulls to 6, but I have t1 Search, t2 Wall of Roots, t3 Garruk into Search, t4 Cloudthresher to just win the game.
