Seige Tower, Goyf Grim & RWB Sliver
Posted On 10/24/2007 21:46:13

Today, Iam introducing my versions of Doran, the Siege Tower, Rock and Sliver decks. Since standard format is changing, adding a brand new set and leaving 3 behind, some of us need to be inspired for upcoming states or champs. So without further adew:

 Siege Tower

Maindeck

3 Doran, the Siege Tower

3 Saffi Eriksdotter

Gaddock Teeg

2 Treefolk Harbinger

2 Timbermare

4 Birds of Paradise

4 Tarmogoyf

2 Ohran Viper

4 Shriekmaw

4 Condemn

2 Search for Tomorrow

2 Harmonize

4 Oblivion Ring

1 Ajani Goldmane

1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

4 Horizon Canopy

LIanowar Wastes

3 Gilt-Leaf Palace

2 Treetop Village

3 Plains

2 Swamp

Forest

Sideboard

2 Mystic Enforcer

3 Riftsweeper

3 Korsan Grip

3 Eyes of the wisent

2 Extirpate

2 Pithing Needle

Now who doesn't like a 5/5 for 3 conversion mana cost, Doran, the Siege Tower is a power house. He's so good, he makes Birds of Paradise, Ohran Viper andTreefolk Harbinger
just as good. Birds of Paradise is a good mana fixer but in team Doran, he swings for 1. Moving on to Ohran Viper, swinging for 3 instead of 1 on your opponent's creature is pointless since he has deathtouch. When beating at his life points, dealing 3 and drawing a card sounds better. Treefolk Harbinger
makes a good 0/3 blocker, he also comes in handy to fetch Doran and becomes a 3/3. I would only play 2 since the only other treefolks in the deck is Doran.

Tarmogoyf is just in every deck able to play him, even decks that shouldn't be playing him. I don't need to tell you why he's in team Doran.

Gaddock Teeg, "the savior", I say: he saves the world from angry gods (Wrath of God), apocalyptic punishment (Damnation) and wizards trickery's (Mystical teachings, Tendrils of Corruption, etc...). No planewalkers but one can cross his path.

Saffi Eriksdotter, always ready to take a bullet for the team. She just loves to save anyone, especially Gaddock Teeg.

The deck has enough removal to handle anything coming your way (Sriekmaw, Condemn, and Oblivion Ring). I know some of you think Harmonize and Ajani Goldmane don't sit well with Gaddock Teeg, but Teeg can't always be around. Now, why play Ajani Goldmane? Well he makes you gain life, which you need because of all these Canopy and wastes you'll be using. Also cranking up your creatures ain't that bad and so is getting an avatar in play.

Sideboard

If you had enough of counterspelling, Eyes of the Wisent gives the break you need. Counterspelling becomes; counter target spell, put a 4/4 under your opponent's control. Riftsweeper get ride of the annoying suspends and Krosan Grip takes care of those Oblivion Ring's player seem to like, I mean the deck play 4 of them.

Rock GB

Maindeck

4 DarkHeart Sliver

4 Augur of Skulls

4 Shriekmaw

4 Tarmogoyf

4 Thoughtseize

4 Smallpox

2 Profane Command

2 Stupor

2 Damnation

3 Call of the herd

2 Harmonize

2 Megrim

3 Treetop Village

4 LIanowar wastes

2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

2 Guilt-Leaf Palace

7 Swamp

5 Forest

Sideboard

3 Riftsweeper

2 Extirpate

3 Tombstalker

3 Korsan Grip

2 Eyes of the Wisent

2 Pithing Needle

Now this deck was based on Goyf Rack and I decided to make a few adjustments to become Goyf Grim. Megrim makes a better job than rack. Smallpox would now ripoff 3, Augur 4, Stupor 4, and Thoughtsieze 2 from you opponents life points. Darkheart Sliver gives the opportunity to gain life since you loose so many from Smallpox, Thoughtsieze and LIanowar wastes. Original I played Two Spike Feeder, the decided to get Profane Command in. I Mean, He's a good removal and reanimator. In late game, he's a finisher and giving fear on one or two Tarmogoyf for the win ain't bad.

WRB Sliver

Maindeck

3 Cautery Sliver

3 Necrotic Sliver

4 Sinew Sliver

2 Essence Sliver

2 Mirror Entity

3 Sedge Sliver

4 Homing Sliver

1 Fury Sliver

1 Battering Sliver

4 Nameless Inversion

4 Thoughtsieze

2 Browbeat

4 Oblivion Ring

4 Terramprphic Expanse

2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

3 Auntie's Hovel

3 Ancient Amphitheater

3 Swamp

4 Mountain

4 Plain

Sideboard

2 Ghostflame Sliver

3 Pull from Eternity

4 Disenchant

2 No Rest for the Wicked

2 Extirpate

2 Pithing Needle

Nameless Inversion counts as a silver? yup, you can fetch this guy with Homing Sliver. The changeling ability helps also to get the new Lorwyn lands out. Nameeless Inversion removes creature types, which comes in handy when your in a mirror match. Cautery Sliver gives you some burn, Necrotic Sliver is just a multiple Vindicate, Sinew Sliver puts in enough strenght to beat down your opponent, Essence Sliver brings you back to health, Sedge Sliver makes killing a sliver harder, Fury Sliver and Battering Sliver kicks in for the win.

Thoughtseize is useful to remove any treat early (like Damnation or Wrath of God). Oblivion Ring as I said before, very well liked.

Sideboard

Ghostflame Sliver breaks any protection barrier. For example: Necrotic sliver would be able to take down Mystic Enforcer. No Rest for the Wicked makes sure you don't run out of slivers due to a Damnation or Wrath of God)

Well that it for me, have fun at states and see ya next time.
