Its been a long time since I posted a new blog, and I'm sure everyone was holding their breath for an update on the infamous Thangal Deck o' Doom. But with a couple of deaths in my family, combined with the usual stupidly busy holiday season in a retail job, gaming had taken a backseat and I hadn't really done much work on decks for WoW in a long, long time. The new year brings a new dawn, and over the last couple of weeks, Thangal, not even updated for MotL, is taking on all comers and more than holding his own still, despite not having new cards. Today was the first day that I've had to really sit down and look over the new stuff I have (and don't have :(), and Thangal got some tweaks. First off, if you didn't see the old list (and why would you look at a scrub's Druid decklist for the one that doesn't get played!?!), the link is here: http://my.tcgplayer.com/blog/view/id_214/title_thangal-doesn-t-completely-suck/Now not a lot has changed with MotL, and the premise remains the same. Armour up and slow early attacks until big fatties can hit the table on turn 5 or so and say "deal with me". Here's where I'm at so far for the MotL Thangal update: Hero: Thangal
Allies: (18) Zy'lah Manslayer Tempest, Son-Of-Storms Rexxar (with pimped Misha token) Moko Hunts-At-Dawn x2 Zygore Bladebreaker x2 Tewa Wildmane Stone Guard Rashun x2 Sister Rot Kulan Earthguard x2 Windseer Taurus Hur Shieldsmasher x2 Grunt Baranka x2
Abilities: (18) Natural Defenses x3 Predatory Strikes x2 Heart Of The Wild x2 Bash x4
Swipe x4
Feral Instinct x2 Demoralizing Roar
Armour: (8) Bracers of the Eclipse Stormrage Legguards Shadowstalker's Sash Helm Of Fire Predatory Gloves x2 Sun-Gilded Shouldercaps x2
Weapon: (2) Braxxis' Staff Of Slumber x2 Quests: (14) Torek's Assault x3 Kibler's Exotic Pets x2 Leader of the Bloodscale x2 Brother Against Brother Chasing A-Me x3 Poison Water x3
***It should be noted that we don't play with sideboards in our casual group, and as you can see by the list, there are quite a few meta allies in the main deck. Were someone interested in trying this, they could certainly pick and choose maindeck allies and go from there. I'm also limited by what I own, which is only two or three boxes per set with a quiet singles market around me.
The part of the deck I will be looking at in more detail is the quests. I'm not sold on some of them, and I'll be looking to make some improvements. But with my local group cringing when I pull out Thangal, I must be doing something right, so I'll stick with the rest for now.
If you have any suggestions on improving this for Hobby League Level competition, I've been out of touch for awhile and welcome new ideas.
Tonight was a fun night for me. Not because I did well in the mini-draft that my buddies and I did, because even though I was the only Horde drafter out of 6 people, I couldn't beat Mr. Alliance 6-cost Untargetable/Evasive.
No, tonight was the night of Thangal!
Now, stop laughing. I know that you probably instantly went, "What a crappy playgroup he has." And admittedly, we're not going to be challenging for Nationals glory tomorrow, but we're not complete scrubs either.
So, the question becomes, for the casual player that is still reading, how did Thangal become not completely terrible?
My premise for the deck was that Druid is the most like Big Green decks of Magic fame. The trouble was that you couldn't survive until that stage, combined with the lack of really good heavy Horde finishers, excluding Zy'lah perhaps. Well, with FoO, Horde Druid has 7 or 8 pieces of armour they can use, and some juicy fatties that can hit the board and say "Deal with me, now!"
Now, with early protection from Armour and Natural Defenses, and midgame beef, you can be a threat.
Here's the decklist, prior to opening more FoO. Obviously, I don't have 4 of everything, so the 1s and 2s will annoy some players, but you'll get the idea, if you were so inclined to try it out for some fun. It does need more ability defense, but it did beat two different Warlock builds tonight (Pagatha and Harrigan) and a Varanis deck. In addition, its taken down Gorebelly, Grumpherys, and Haruka, so I can stop thinking of it as a fluke as its 8-0.
I welcome suggestions on how to fine-tune it for some more Hobby League level fun.

Welcome to Chilliwack Chat, my little personal gaming blog, where I'll discuss the two main TCGs I play, Legend of the Five Rings and WoW.
I've been a TCG player since '95, when I started playing Magic. From there, I was introduced to L5R, which became a big part of my life. My 2 year old's middle name is a character from L5R (Shahai), and I have playtested for the game for at least 3 years now. I recently started playing the WoW TCG because, like many, I have lots of friends that play the online game, and while I don't play it, the gameplay was good, so I gave in and joined them. I've played many other games in the past, including Raw Deal, Full Metal Alchemist, Magi-Nation, 7th Sea, Doomtown, Netrunner, Battletech, Warlord, LBS, On The Edge, and Game Of Thrones. Money, the cancellation of the game, and/or lack of solid playgroups led to stopping most of them to focus on two games (eg. I stopped Raw Deal when WoW took off in my area and it died out).
Sadly, other than events in the Pacific Northwest, I've never been to a big con, so my "big event" experience is limited. I've won my share of smaller events, and as someone who likes to play the underdog decks, I've done pretty well with what I've had to work with (regularly playing tier 3 factions in L5R is not a good way to post big results, and yet, I've never been worse than .500 at a Kotei Regional event). Even in WoW, Rogue is my favorite class, which isn't exactly a top tier class, so my work continues to be cut out for me.
Anyhow, that's enough about me. If there's something about the games I play (or used to play) that you'd like to see discussed, feel free to message me.
