So i've been playing ELVES at my local fnm for awhile, and now that shadowmoor is out i've been wondering whether or not to convert my deck from its present state as a G/B elves deck to the newer G/W elves. Let's take a look at my list as it stands now:
Brian's GB Elves
4 Llannowar Elves
4 Wolf-Skull Shaman
4 Wren's Run Vanquisher
4 Imperious Perfect
3 Civic Wayfinder
3 Chameleon Colossus
3 Shriekmaw
3 Nameless Inversion
4 Thoughtseize
2 Garruk Wildspeaker
3 Profane Command
4 Gilt-Leaf Palace
4 Llanowar Wastes
3 Treetop Village
1 Mutavault
2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
1 Pendelhaven
5 Forest
3 Swamp
Obviously not exactly the build I would like, i want to try to sneak in more Mutavault, and i'm pretty sure the land base could support it, but I am drained for cash as is.
What Black adds to this deck:
4 Thoughtseize
All in all probaly my personal MVP of the deck. Its obvious to me why this card is going for more than $20, it just wins games. Taking that damnation out of their hand, or lately making a keepable faerie hand with bitterblossom significantly worse( often taking the bitterblossom backed with a few creatures almost singlehandedly wins you the game.)
3 Profane Command
Fantastic card to topdeck in almost any situation, whether it brings back a perfect, kills a creature, or just makes them lose life and fear your elves FTW.
3 Shriekmaw
Yet another card i wish i could have more of in the deck(But i want to keep the elf count as high as possible for the Shaman.)
3 Nameless Inversion
What can be said about Inversion that hasn't been said already, it has a cheap cost and it counts as an elf......but there is just one problem. The return of the four toughness creatures, yes with the likes of Wilt-Leaf Leige, Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers, Ashenmoor Gouger, and Plumeveil running around that nameless inversion seems worse and worse. So what to do, the obvious substitue would be terror, but I for one tend to be in the camp that sudden death is about to make a comeback in a big way. I dont think the BB in the cost will make much of a diffrence, and the fact that it kills Mistbind Clique, Swans, and every card in revilark without the chance to be countered makes it a very good choice.
So what about G/W Elves, heres a quick list i threw together:
Brian's G/W Elves
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Safehold Elite
4 Wren's Run Vanquisher
4 Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers
4 Imperious Perfect
4 Wilt-Leaf Liege
3 Chameleon Colossus
4 Shield of the Oversoul
4 Oblivion Ring
2 Garruk Wildspeaker
4 Horizon Canopy
4 Wooded Bastion
4 Treetop Village
1 Pendelhaven
7 Forest
3 Plains
Wow, this deck comes at you fast, turn one llanowar, turn two cavaleirs, turn three leige, may be enough to seal the deal by themselves, obviously this will not happen every game. So let's see what white brings to the deck:
4 Wilt-Leaf Liege
He is the entire point of going green white, while safehold elite is decent by himself a liege makes him a 4/4 for 2, move over Vanquisher! Cavaliers become a 4/5 vigilance for three and of course all the other "just green" elves still get +1/+1.
4 Horizon Canopy
Clearly one of the best pain lands you could hope for, although it always deals damage when tapped for mana the ability to sac it and draw makes the disadvantage almost negligible.
Now here's where I have to stop myself, as i peered over this decklist I started to notice something. As i look at the cards that have been added from the G/B version I start to think that the best ones could just as easily be played in G/B or even Mono Green. Don't get me wrong some of the cards function better in G/W but 3 for a 3/4 vigilance even for GGG in G/B is still insane, so now that I have confused myself even more than I was when i started writing, I think i'll leave you a list that is open to suggestions.
Brian's A Happy Medium Elves
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Wren's Run Vanquisher
3 Safehold Elite

3 Terror

2 Profane Coammand
4 Gilt Leaf Palace
4 Llanowar Wastes
4 Treetop Village
