I read your article about Merfolk, I'm like you I don't like always playing the most popular format and I've been tooling around with Merfolk, I'm finding that Sage of Fables works better than Silvergill Adept.  If you have the bannerett out in play Sage of Fables only costs 1 island because it's both a Merfolk and a Wizrd.  Then any merfolk coming in gets +1/+1 and has a card drawing ability.  In the short term Silvergill is the better card advantage, but if you go mid to late game Sage of Fables is awesome coming out for 1, and making any Merfolk/Wizard +2/+2 so you can draw two cards of it, Just a thought.
