The Bald and the Beautiful
|
The many of you who know me also know my favorite team as the Revenge Squad. This gang of baddies have been neglected since their release in the Man of Steel expansion set a couple of years ago. Unable to be found in any Tier 1 decks or PC championships, it seemed that this team would be lost. However, with the release of the World's Finest expansion set, a whole new light is shining off of the scalp of the evil genius known as Lex Luthor, the most important enemy of Superman.
With the return of the Revenge Squad, their ongoing plot twist team follows. However, what they were lacking back then, they have flourished now. Look out for some of the new characters and plot twists that they have now, like Terra-Man, Toby Manning, who gets a substantial increase in power based on how many ongoing plot twists you have.
Along with their major theme of ongoing plot twists, a new set of gimmicks and tricks tag along. Among these are Vengeance, a keyword represented in the Infinite Crisis expansion set, which triggers when the character with this keyword becomes stunned. Also, they have powerful abilites given to those characters in your front row. I happen to like these new Revenge Squad themes, because they show that these guys will never give up in the face of battle, and if they do fall, they take you down with them.
After taking a good look at the new cards, I have decided to try and create a deck using all three themes (because I'm insane, I guess...but I'll leave that to the Arkham Inmates). Believe it or not, it was not too difficult to bring these ideas together to form one good deck. The reason for this is because most of the characters in this team seem to have two different effects combined into one effect on one character. For example, Preus, Citizen's Patrol uses the ongoing plot twist gimmick in combination with the front row idea. Also, I decided to try and make this deck Modern Age because it only needs cards from the latest sets to be good. Here is what I have put together:
The Bald and the Beautiful Modern Age - Worlds Finest Legal when Worlds Finest is current set
Characters 3 Atomic Skull, Cursed2 Brainiac 13, B-132 Brainiac 2.5, Future Intelligence1 Darkseid, The Omega2 Lex Luthor, Master Manipulator2 Metallo, Kryptonite Heart1 Natasha Irons Starlight, Everyman Project2 Preus, Citizen's Patrol4 Professor Emil Hamilton Ruin, Power Suit1 Satanus, Colin Thornton1 Solaris, Tyrant Sun4 Terra-Man, Toby Manning4 Winslow Schott Toyman, Child's PlayPlot Twists 3 Assault and Battery4 Battle for Metropolis4 Executive Privilege4 Future Shock4 Hidden Agenda3 Imprisoned in the Source3 Never-Ending Battle2 Spirit of Nabu4 StandoffThis is a regular beatdown style Revenge Squad deck. Professor Emil Hamilton Ruin, Power Suit is a great character to have in your opening hand, as well as a few Executive Decisions. As you may notice, the main theme in this deck is the ongoing plot twists. All but 8 of the 31 plot twists are ongoing. This should be plenty of bait when you use Executive Decision. Standoff kills any deck that relies on heavy plot twist use. 1 Darkseid, The Omega is in there in case an annoying face-up resource they control will be more advantagious to you if they all-of-a-sudden 'lose' it.
Well, I hope this gears any of you to make some kind of Revenge Squad deck. I know I have approximately 12, from Golden Age through Modern Age. Mix them with Villains United because of the Vengeance theme. Perhaps you could mix them with the Arkham Inmates theme of not being close to each other. Since there won't be any reinforcing except with the help of plot twists or equipment, you might as well put them all in the front row so they gain even more benefits. Whatever you decide to do, just remember...
Bald is beautiful (although I'm not bald)
