I wrote this blog instead of watching Girls Gone Wild.

A faerie and a goblin walk into a bar.  The goblin doesn't notice, the faerie gets a concussion.

As far as Lorwyn block is concerned Faeries and RG are the two most hotly debated decks.  There is a general concensus on what should go into these decks, but that is something I'd like to challenge today.  I may not be a great deck builder, but I have a knack for seeing things other may miss (it comes from a chemical imbalence of the brain, , , located in my pants).

Faeries

One thing about them is the fact they have a strong mana base between Glen and Ruins.  It also means that Mutavault is only an option if the deck isn't overly reliant on multiple colors of mana (3 or more before round 6).  In others words Oona is an option ever if Mutavault is used.  Oddly, few people ever include her in their decks.  She is dead sexy!  That alone should be enough.

Yes I realize Mutavault is an auto include if you're basing your build on 1st place at most standard events.  The thing to keep in mind is that this has to be a build to reflect a metagame that doesn't exsist yet.  Based upon what we can guess to be commonly used answers (yes, that is a plug for my other blog located HERE tricky ain't I) I've come up with a few suggestions.

Considering how easy it is to come out swinging in this metagame (yes, a wild assumption, but there are a large number of 1 and 2 drops that don't suck out there).  Tattermunge Maniac, Flamekin Bladewhirl, and Goldmeadow Stalwart are not things you want to be taking alot of damage from.  Yet, there it is.

Where is all this going?  I have no idea.  Oona's Gatewarden on the surface seems like a great answer to these questions, it's also a horrible answer to these questions because yes, it just sits there waiting for the other guy to walk right into her, which is something no one in their right mind will do.

And that's the genius behind that scrawny limp fish.

Play her round one and she'll eat their one or two drop, or soak up a removal spell.  Later on in the game, being as she only cost one, you can still leave mana open for tricks.  This is a damned if you do damned if you don't situation.  Attack for what could be the win into a 2/1 wither and tricks to back it up, or waste a removal spell on it.

So that's my arguement for the scrawny limp fish.  The rest of the deck will make so much sence there will be no argument (at least, there better not be).

Bitterblosom - duh.  Okay okay, there's more.  This is the new Necropotence and many of you never had the pleasure of playing with or the horror of playing against one of the best cards ever made.  (whisperingly) ever!  Which means BB should be treated as such.  Sadly, there's no Ivory Tower for you to sit in.  Instead we have Morsel Theft (conveniently prowlable) and Rite of Consumption (soooooo good with Sower of Temptation).  That ain't much to go on.  Corrupt is a possibility if the deck is mono-black, and long range, which is not what I'm going for here.

This is what I'm going for

1 Faerie Harbinger
3 Mistbind Clique
3 Oona's Gatewarden
1 Oona, Queen of the Fae
4 Scion of Oona
2 Sower of Temptation
3 Spellstutter Sprite
1 Wydwen, the Biting Gale

4 Bitterblossom
3 Cryptic Command
3 Morsel Theft
2 Rite of Consumption
4 Thoughtseize
2 Trip Noose

8 Island
2 Leechridden Swamp
2 Reflecting Pool
4 Secluded Glen
4 Sunken Ruins
4 Swamp

The deck doesn't play itself.  It's diversified and requires you to be adaptive, further testing will be required.  I'm kidding!  This is all total guess work.  Playing through the deck I find that I enjoy it and that's about it.  At least from here we can start the group think and further develop the deck into teh deadly machine we all know it will be.

Now, for the counter deck.

Faeries are remarkably easy to put together because it's just a matter of strategic choice and even that's made for you (go go Wizards R&D!).  I added some cards to the deck that are auto includes and some you might never have thought of, , , obviously.  Cause you know, Trip Noose is considered such a techy card (well, by me, and that's probably about it).

Sadly, Vexing Shusher is about the only reason why RG is even on the table.  Luckily, the hag is a shaman as well as a goblin.  Not that that really matters.  It's the fact she's both Red and Green.  Let's see how it turns out.

4 Boartusk Liege
4 Boggart Ram-Gang
3 Juvenile Gloomwidow
4 Tattermunge Maniac
4 Vexing Shusher

4 Firespout
4 Flame Javelin
4 Puncture Bolt
4 Tarfire

4 Fire-Lit Thicket
3 Forest
7 Mountain
4 Mutavault
4 Reflecting Pool
4 Chameleon Colossus
3 Cloudthresher
4 Gleeful Sabotage
4 Guttural Response
Surprise!  No Trip Noose!  Because even I'm not that stupid.  Play the deack at the following URL: http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/deck.asp?Deck_ID=303807

You may have some questions about some of the card choices.  Isn't it wonderful, these one sided conversations.  I can give you no have answers and there really isn't alot you can do about it.

Oh yeah, you could post comments below.  Damnit.

Juvenile Gloomwidow - It eats faeries so much they should've put it in the artwork.  There is nothing that cost 1 and kills this.  Shard Volley?  Go ahead and waste that land.  This little bastich is the road stop to end all road stops.  Drop a Boartusk Leige and this will survive a Firespout.  Not to shubby.

Puncture Bolt - Because Bitchen Finks is a Kitch, , , yeah, I went there.  Also, that -1/-1 is quite the combat trick.  It's like having a red damage prevention spell.  It also stops those stupid persist tricks.  Play it and you will find yourself pleasantly surprised.  Kind of like eating Corned Beef Hash, it looks like toilet sewage but taste like greasy heaven.

Deus of Calamity - This is actually sideboard fodder.  When you hae to take cards out this is usually your first choice to remove, why?  Cause everything in black that isn't Nameless Inversion kills it and blue bounce is so much cheaper than Deus Christ it's worth casting on him.  Maindecking him is because he can steal the hell out the game when you least expect it.  Also, if someone sees him in game one you better believe they'll be saving removal for him game two.  That alone gives you an uncommon edge against the brain damaged mouth breathers of the world.

The rest of the deck explains itself.  It comes out swinging, kicking butts and chewing bubblegum, and she's all out of bubblegum.

Yeah, that joked sucked, sorry.

This makes 4 decks that hopefully aren't too bad.  Given some tender loving care I'm sure these decks can become elevated to new heights.  Or, not.  Either way I'm just going to keep them coming as often as I can.  I promise nothing!  I'm a busy man, who has some interesting decks to build.  Thanx for reading!

Shane

P.S: I have no idea what kind of decks I'll be trying to put together next.  Go ahead, give me something to work with.

Nice blog, I'm not too sure what you could talk about for future decks but off of Mike Flores' past post at Wizards I have seen that Aside from the Fae and the Red Deck variants Merfolk, White Weenie, and Elves have all made top 8 appearances at Regionals. Could you please talk about those and break each down as well?

Scarecrows!

A combo deck of some sort!

Those are sadly lacking so far.
