With scant days left before the Realm Championships happen across the country, players are trying to paint a picture of what decks are going to be the powerhouses for the coming weekend and what decks are going to be geared enough to beat them.
Are more players going to show up with control or aggro? Ally rush or solo? Discard, dagger rogue, Desecrator or demonology 'lock? TCGPlayer writers Borbwab and Madjinn join up to bring you two more decks going head-to-head this week in the second edition of the Throwdown.
Careful now, the Throwdown strikes back:

This is the decklist I wrote about in my blog entry earlier this week. I've touched it up a little bit thanks to the feedback I got on the original entry. The main differences are that the Storm Shocks are out for the Molten Core treasure the Perdition's Blade, Vindicator Zalreth is in for the Aldor's High Priestess, and I took the Healing Wave out of the sideboard for the more proactive thwarting tech of Terror Pit Girdle.
Borbwab's Decklist
[TOP SECRET!]
Ryan had contacted my earlier in the week to set-up this Throwdown and I was really looking forward to it. I came home from work and tweaked my deck and I was off. I’m playing a Mythen of the Wild/Gift of the Wild deck that I like to call DEFENSE. Sorry, I’m not spoiling this deck till after Realms as who knows, I might play it.
The Throwdown Strikes Back! Game 1
Madjinn wins the dice roll
Madjinn's Opening Hand:
Xanata the Lightsworn, Vexmaster Nar'jo, Death Shock, Element's Fury x2, Earth Shock, Ras'fari Bloodfrenzy
And we’re off… to a questless start. The hand has two decent second turn plays – depending on what Borb shows turn one – twin Element’s Fury and a Ras’fari for my turn six. However, if he’s playing Alliance there’s a chance he’s running a mass of untargetables, and if so a double Element’s Fury is useless… though the Vexmaster and Ras’faris are good in that case. I don’t know what he’s playing with, but he’s druid so I can surmise he’s running a couple strong on-goings, so I’ll mulligan this. It could get worse, but not much.
Second Hand:
Thwarting Kolkar Aggression, Forces of Jaedenar, Perdition's Blade, Earth Shock x2, Vindicator Zalreth
The quests are a positive. It’s always tricky trying to decide what to face-down when you’re playing in the style of control. Vindicator Zalreth is in there so if I can get to turn seven and beyond I may just be able to do my planned Ras’fari-from-the-grave magic act. Double Earth Shocks are nice, if a mite on the expensive side to be answers for his early game. We’ll see.
Borbwab's Opening Hand:
Finkle Einhorn, At Your Service!, Totem of Coo, Korthas Greybeard, Miner Steelwhiskers, Mark of the Wild, Blademistress Lyss, Gift of the Wild
Well, you really couldn't ask for a better start. I've got a solid ally curve till turn 4 and a finisher in Gift of the Wild if he doesn't have answers. This is one of the stronger hands I've seen this deck have. Another Totem of Coo would be the only way to make it better.
Madjinn, turn 1: I’ll play Forces first turn and pass it over to Borbwarb. Nothing much else for me to do.
Borbwab, turn 1: Draw Korthas Greybeard and drop Totem of Coo and Korthas. No brainer there. Just glad I've got a 1-drop.
Mad, turn 2: I thought for a second about using my flip to take out the Korthas, but I decided I'd rather save it for an ally who's a bit more of a stumbling block, like a Xanata. The top of my deck gives up a Purge. With Korthas out, there’s no sense holding the Perdition’s for turn three and a play-and-swing, so I’ll drop it now and use the enters-play on his hero. I’ve got the Element’s Fury for next turn anyway. Thwarting Kolkar Aggression hits the table, followed by the P-Blade and I ping Borb’s hero for one.
Borb, turn 2: His turn he dropped Perdition's and pings my hero. I don't like seeing that turn 2. I draw Blademistress Lyss and drop Miner Steelwhiskers. Buidling my wall up at this point. That's why I titled the deck simply DEFENSE.
Mad, turn 3: I draw a Mana Spring Totem, but I’ve got quests on the table and other things to be doing for the next few turns, so I’ll put that one face-down rather than lose a damage ability or the Purge for the on-goings I’m sure he’ll be playing. Turn three is the turn of Element’s Fury and I want to make a dent in his protector wall so I target Korthas instead of Steelwhiskers. Nothing like six damage for three.
Borb, turn 3: His turn he Elements Fury'd. God, do I hate that card from my previous MWS game. He takes out Korthas and there's nothing I can do. Korthas prevents 1 to Steelwhiskers. I forget about his errata and realize I should have prevented to hero. Everyone makes mistakes and I make more than most. Draw Blademistress Lyss - I like her but who shuffled my deck? I play Korthas face down and drop my first Blademistress. I attack with Steelwhiskers. I'm taking a chance there but I want to be the aggressor and I figure Blademistress can handle things on her own. If he tries to damage her I've got Mark of the Wild.
Mad, turn 4: I draw Tatulla the Reclaimer and play the extra Earth Shock as a resource. No sense keeping two around when I otherwise have ability hate pretty well covered. The plan right now is to Shock his Blademistress Lyss out of the way, but there’s always the chance he’ll play a better target, so I’ll wait and do it during his turn.
Borb, turn 4: Draw Mark of the Wild. I row a Mistress expecting Death Shock on her at some point. I attack with Blademistress Lyss. He Earth Shocks... not what I was expecting, but actually I like it. I respond with two Mark of the Wilds. Blademistress takes 4 from the Shock when it resolved and I ready everything. He takes 5 from her and I attack in for Steelwhiskers for another 2. I play Blademistress from hand, leaving me holding Gift of the Wild.
[DAMAGE TOTALS: Borbwab, 4; Madjinn, 9]
Mad, turn 5: What a difference a turn makes. The draw is another Perdition’s and that gets quickly placed down as a resource. I didn’t expect to see that particular card from HoA (let alone two!), but at least I’ve got the cards to put the Marks away and end Lyss all the same. I try not to beat myself too bad for waiting to play the Earth Shock because he could’ve just Marked up Steelwhiskers anyway. Tatulla bounds in and shoos one Mark of the Wild away and I ability-be-gone the other with Purge.
Borb, turn 5: I draw Finkle Einhorn, At Your Service. Good, I needed a quest. I need one more turn for my Gift of the Wild. Too bad it's not turn 6. I Finkle back Korthas and go in again with Steelwhiskers. I might just kill him with Mr. Whiskers...
Mad, turn 6: I'm in a bit of an uncomfortable position right now. He's playing protectors out too fast for me to kill them and his Marks are given my damage abilities fits. I bet he's got a Gift of the Wild in his hand...
I draw Ras’fari. I would’ve liked to have something else this draw and the Ras’fari one turn later. I see myself with two choices here. In Plan A, I forgo the resource, attack with Tatulla then swing in with Perdition’s and complete Thwarting, netting me one more card in my hand and one dead ally on his side of the table. In Plan B, I face-down the Vindicator, play Ras’fari to attack and have him out and ready next turn for two separate swings, getting me some tempo gain that at this point I’m desperately needing. So I stop a moment to ponder the particulars of who might be protecting who, lay the Zalreth down as a resource, and play Ras’fari. I figure whoever Tatulla tries to attack she’ll be protected by Lyss, so I send her into the Blademistress and then I play Ras’fari, who attempts to attack Steelwhiskers, who is then protected by old Korthas. I wish that would've done more against his ally wall...
Borb, turn 6: He attacked with Tatulla. I think he forgot my flip. Lets see. Damn, his 6-drop is good too. Ras'fari. Korthas for the save there. End of turn I need cards, so I'll finish a sole Totem of Coo and hero flip to heal all the damage off Blademistress. Draw is a Totem of Coo.
I top-deck Finkle Einhorn, At Your Service (who shuffled this deck?). I play Totem of Coo as I can finish that quest if he runs into Blademistress on his turn. Well, I want to drop Gift, but where do I want to attack? I could run both into Ras'fari and kill him while both survived. Let's try that, because his weapon scares me now. I kill Ras'fari and have a severely wounded Blademistress and Steelwhiskers. Korthas is Finkled back in a second time, though now he's a 3/4 and a bit more scary.
Mad, turn 7: I think I forgot about his flip. Ugh, I draw Xanata, which is not what I wanted to see. I wanted a damage ability or even better a way to burn his Gift away, but I’m left holding a protector. I wish I had a Chasing A-Me out so I could suicide Tatulla into Korthas then bring her back to take out GotW and the blue protector in one go, but that’s just not in the cards. First thing, I’ll do Thwarting Kolkar Aggression and see if I can’t draw a better play. Thwarting gets me Forces of Jaedenar. Great. I have little choice here. I place Forces, flip to kill Steelwhiskers (taking three damage in the process) and swing into Blademistress Lyss with a now rather miniscule looking Perdition’s Blade.
Borb, turn 7: Draw Vindicator Kaldel. Not bad, but a Myriam would have really helped here. Just the same, I need to drop my guys and play off the fact we're both top decking at this point. He's got ability destruction I just hope he doesn't hit it. I Finkle Steelwhiskers and drop Vindicator. I've got clear board advantage but that could change really fast so I'm not super confident right yet.
[DAMAGE TOTALS: Borbwab, 4; Madjinn, 17]
Mad, turn 8: Voss?! I draw a Voss. Well, with nothing else productive to do I play him and leave my dagger open for a swing.
Borb, turn 8: Draw Inventor Dorbin Callus. And with that draw, I think I've pretty well sealed things. Death Shock on his part will swing it, but I'm a gambling man and I have no other play this turn. Remember, he's got no cards in hand. I attack first. Vindicator Kaldel goes into Lightsworn and kills her in one hit. Steelwhiskers goes into Voss. I drop Inventor and pass. I play it very safe here as being too aggressive could be costly. If he draws and it's not a Deathshock for Inventor I'm going to have a huge hand over the next 2 turns and I think the game. The suspense builds.
Mad, turn 9: I draw a Perdition’s Blade. I can’t even use it to ping an ally because he’ll just exhaust Korthas to prevent the damage anyway. Looks like I’m hosed. Somewhere around twenty damage is coming my way next turn. I extend my virtual hand. Mama always said there’d be days like this…
Winner: Borbwab
The Throwdown Strikes Back! Game 2
Borbwab:
I side out 2 Vindicator Agrans and side in one copy of Vanquish (for Ras'fari) and 1 Vindicator Kaldel.
Madjinn:
So for siding, I’m looking for cards to take out with the least utility here, because everything’s pretty important. I want in one Doshura, and those two Shadalas, so out go three Xanatas because they serve me the absolute least against his line of protectors.
I can’t just chalk that loss up to bad quests. His protector wall is tricky to get around once that gets online, and I need to take out his threats early or he’ll buff them up to where I can’t deal with them without burning through all my answers too quick. I know I’ve got the cards to counter all that I’ve seen him play so far, so I just need to keep the important ones around and hope to get a few good draws when I need them. Hopefully, I used up all my bad drawing luck at the end of game one…
Madjinn's Opening Hand:
Chasing A-Me 01, Purge, Death Shock, Mana Spring Totem, Tatulla the Reclaimer, Earth Shock, Doshura Risestrider
This is pretty decent actually, I’m lacking in the early drops, so I’ll probably be using my flip to kill his turn 1 drop, but that activates my Death Shock so I have no problem with that… I’ve got Chasing, Tatulla, Purge, Dosh... me likey. This is a good enough start to wade through his early drops I think.
Borbwab's Opening Hand:
Gurok the Usurper, Antikron the Unyielding x2, Xanata the Lightsworn x2, Earth Mother's Blessing
The lack of quests scares me, but I am on the draw. I've got a decent curve with plays on turn 1 through 4. I'll keep this, I think.
Mad, turn 1: Down with the Chasing and then I pass over to him. Let’s see if he plays a turn one ally.
Borb, turn 1: Draw The Natural Order. I play Gurok and drop Antikron. He end of turn hero flips to kill Antikron. Must not like him...
Mad, turn 2: Man, I don't like Antikron. I draw a Ras’fari. I row Earth Shock, because I’m four-drop heavy as it is and Tatulla and Purge will do the ability-hate job better than the Shock. Well, that’s it for me. My fingers linger over Death Shock as I pass the turn.
Borb, turn 2: I draw Mark of the Wild. Figure I'll maximize resources, drop Xanata this turn and then turn 3 either pump her via Earth Mother or drop Antikron and pump him via Mark. We'll see what happens on turn 3. He end-of-turn Death Shocks Xanata. Good, one less of those to deal with. Probably going to have to go with Antikron on turn 3 leaving two open of a Mark of the Wild. I don't like to think too far ahead but it seems reasonable right now.
Mad, turn 3: I pick up another Mana Spring Totem. There’s no sense keeping that, so I row one, then wait to EoT the other. Hopefully, I draw something to knock his allies out of the way so the totem can net me a few more cards.
Borb, turn 3: Draw Vanquish. I would have liked a quest but, ah well. I want to keep the Vanquish but I'm afraid it has to go down. Regretting not mulliganing that starting hand. Vanquish goes face down because I know I'll need all the allies I can get. I leave the other two resources open and pass things to Ryan.
He end-of-turns a Mana Spring Totem. Crap, I’m really regretting rowing The Natural Order and Vanquish. If he can drop a Xanata to protect the totem then I'm in trouble. In fact, I'll probably lose this game from the card advantage he'll quickly have.
Mad, turn 4: From the EoTed Mana Spring I draw a Forces of Jaedenar and Vexmaster Nar’jo. With two resources showing, I bet he’s got the Mark of the Wild in his hand, but I’ve got the Purge now and a Tatulla for later, so I think I’ll draw out the Mark and net myself either a dead Antikron or two more damage onto his hero, Mythen. I place Forces, play the Vexmaster, attack, and sure enough the Mark of the Wild hits the table. I Purge it away and Borb activates Antikron’s power to keep the little bugger alive to see another day.
Borb, turn 4: Draw Cyclone. I quickly attack the Mana Spring Totem with Antikron because that has to go. Another tough choice as to what to resource. I think the Cyclone and that's what I do. I pay two for Xanata and pass.
Mad, turn 5: Seeing Xanata’s a bit of a downer, but I know he’s packing protectors, so if I just keep up with the pressure I’ll be able to wear him thin. The good thing about my Horde allies is they’ll start to net me two- or three-for-ones if I play them right. I place Forces and Doshura, the anti-Antrikon, comes down on the evidentally not so Unyielding with a satisfying squish. I still have Vexmaster to attack with and he’s got the two ready resources showing again. Could be a Mark or a bluff. If he doesn’t have the Mark, that one point of damage from Nar’jo will be enough for a single swing from Ras’fari to put him out of the way. Vexmaster in. No Mark shows up so I’ll take the one point of damage where I can get it and pass over to him.
Borb, turn 5: Draw Xanata. Gotta row her, unfortunately. I want to leave everything open but I realize he might Earth Shock my Earth Mother's Blessing on his turn so I play it and run Xanata into Doshura to kill her. That's all I've got. I wish my Myriam was a Gift of the Wild but she's not.
[DAMAGE TOTALS: Borwab, 2; Madjinn, 3]
Mad, turn 6: I draw another Tatulla. If I just Dosh, he’ll draw another card, but if I use Tatulla, he’ll lose the ally and the card draw, there’s the threat of course of another MotW, so it’s a risk, but I’ll try it. Doesn’t have the MotW again. Crisis averted. But he does hero flip in response, healing her up to 2… doh, should’ve seen that coming, but at least that’s gone, and I can play Doshura later. Two cards in my hand are important answers, another is my aggro card if I can just play it, I’ll skip the resource drop this turn.
Borb, turn 6: Draw Earth Mothers Blessing. Darn. I don't resource and that should send a pretty clear signal. I drop Myrian with an active Xanata up. I pass and await my fate. I hold onto my lowly Earth Mother's Blessing.
Mad, turn 7: I draw Voss (good lord!, thanks for showing up late to the party again) and he’s going F.D. With only one card showing on his side, I know I’ve got to eat Xanata this turn… fortunately, Tatulla can do it and live, so he’s going in. Xanata dies and with six resources down, it’s time for that Ras'fari. He goes through fine and eats Myriam; Narj goes in for an extra point of damage. With a Dosh and Tatulla in my hand, three allies down (including a damaged bloodfrenzied Ras'fari) and a Chasing, I finally like my position.
Borb, turn 7: Draw Totem of Coo. Quest came a little too late, I think. I've got nothing to stick the Blessing on and I'm facing a beatdown. I could still turn this but it won't be easy. I make my Gurok a Totem and pay 4 to draw 2. I get a Gift of the Wild and a Gurok. Not great.
Mad, turn 8: The top card of my deck turns over to reveal a Perdition's Blade, which I'll be playing. I send my allies in first. All go through without a hitch, putting twelve damage on his hero. I play the Perdition's and swing in for two more.
Borb, turn 8: I draw a Totem of Coo. I drop the Totem to match the last one. Completing it, I draw into an Inventor and a Cyclone. Well, alright, we'll see. I'm not one to fold yet.
[DAMAGE TOTALS: Borbwab: 17, Madjinn, 3]
Mad, turn 9: This might be it. I don’t think he has anything to play for one resource that will stop me... I attack in and, well, yes he does. He cyclones Ras'fari. Unfortunately for him, I play Tatulla, who destroys the Cyclone, then move in for the kill.
Winner: Madjinn
The Throwdown Stirkes Back! Game 3
Borbwab's Opening Hand:
Totem of Coo, Korthas Greybeard, Xanata the Lighsworn, Myriam Starcaller, Anchorite Alonora, Gift of the Wild, Inventor Dorbin Callus
Might be a glutton for punishment keeping a hand with only one quest, but some people never learn. This hand has everything I need to win, except quests. Lets hope I hit some this game.
Madjinn's Opening Hand:
Vexmaster Nar'jo, Shadala, Perdition's Blade, Element's Fury, Earth Shock, Totem of Decay, Sha'kar
I hate opening hands with decent cards and no freaking quests. I’ve got some decent early answers, but Narjo’s junk if he plays an Antikron. Man, I don’t know, I’ve got my flip to kill his first turn again, and I’m on the draw… so maybe I’ll get a quest…
Groan, let me think this through. Well, I think Totem of Decay might be a very strong card against this deck, he lacks any ferocity or direct damage so if I can keep his side clear, I can drop the Totem for a little bit of a control lock. What the hell. For the Horde!
Borb, turn 1: I drop the Totem of Coo and Korthas and pass.
Mad, turn 1: I draw another Element's. No quest, so if I have to row something, it’s going to be Sha'kar because I’m using my flip this turn anyway and there’s no sense keeping him around until turn five or later for his ferocity. Korthas is dead. He just doesn't know it yet. I'll wait until his turn to do it, though. If he plays an Antikron, for example, my flip’s better suited to that.
Borb, turn 2: He played a face down resource his first turn. Either he's psyching me out or he's got a bomb hand, but didn't get quests. Keeping the fingers crossed that it hurts his draw.
I draw Blademistress Lyss and resource the Anchorite. She works well with Myriam, but I need to drop something. I pay 2 for Xanata and pass. He EoT hero flips and goes after Xanata. I protect her with Korthas' ability but I'm thinking Perditions on turn 2 will kill her anyways. We'll see.
Mad, turn 2: Up comes the Death Shock. Hmmm, well, Nar'jo’s still the better play here, because he’ll be around for more chaos later and the Death Shock’s going to benefit me more than the dagger with all the protectors he plays. I think it’s the Perdition’s that’s going facedown. I pass my turn and then start to think as he draws that I misplayed and maybe should have rowed the Nar'jo instead.
Borb, turn 3: Draw Korthas Greybeard. Well, it's not a quest but Ryan doesn't have any either. I row Korthas and drop Blademistress. That's my turn and I pass. If he can't clear my protectors then I'm setting myself up perfectly for a turn 4 Myriam.
Mad, turn 3: And then there was Tatulla. I take her off of my deck and put her into my hand. Always a welcome sight. I figure he's probably going to read my attacking weaponless into an ally (man, I really should've kept that dagger), but it'll exhaust Korthas regardless. So I attack, and he reads it and responds. Element's Fury goes into Lyss and his hero, then Vexmaster goes into Lyss to finish her off.
Borb, turn 4: I EoT'd a Totem of Coo for the Marks of Kil'jaeden. At the start of my turn, the draw is Finkle Einhorn. I drop the Mark's quest, as Finkle is more important and I don't want it Thwarted. Korthas attacks and kills Vexmaster to clear the way for Myriam, who gets played next. I pass. Fingers are crossed on no Finkle on Ryan's part and no more Vexmasters. Horde doesn't have a hell of a lot of answers for a turn 4 Myriam when they're on the draw.
I read Ryan's stuff so I know the combo he's packing using the new guy that gets Ferocity if your hero has done either Fire, Nature, or Frost damage (his name is Sha'kar, I looked it up). It's a good answer to Myriam. Hope he doesn't have that guy and a Chill or I can kiss her goodbye.
Mad, turn 4: This is a little tough. I draw a Voss, which I think I’ll actually play. I’m afraid he’s got a Kaldel in hand, so I’ll hang onto to the Death Shock, rather than off Korthas. That means something has got to be rowed, and in this case, I think it’ll be Shadala. Though her targeted ability hate is nice, I’ll need to have an ability in hand to use her, and I’m emptying a lot of them out to take out his threats. I play Voss and leave three resources open as I pass the turn over the Borb.
Borb, 5: Draw Anchorite Alonora. Well, well, well. Lucky draw there. I know he's packing Death Shock and I'm going to try and coax it out of him by killing Voss Treebender with Korthas. He might waste it on Korthas.
No such luck there. I decide to wait on the Anchorite and bring back out Xanata via Finkle. I tap Myriam for 5 to the hero and pass. I'm hoping he wastes the Shock on Xanata. I wouldn't say wastes really, but there are better targets coming. If I can get Myriam through this turn, that is.
Mad, turn 5: I draw Purge, which doesn't do me any good right now. Well, now I need to think clearly. I think I should keep that Earth Shock in case he plays a Kaldel. I think I might be able to Decay on his turn and make some headway. So I row Tatulla, and hope for the freaking best… turn four Myriam on the play is rough.
Borb, turn 6: I draw Finkle Einhorn, At Your Service (Finkle Tastic!). I'm sure he's got something good in store for his turn 6 but I've got my six drop as well. He's got three cards in hand. I'm banking on one of those cards being Ras'fari. The other two I have no clue.
I play it safe and don't drop the Anchorite and hold back for my Gift on his turn. I don't finish Finkle so I'm sending a pretty clear signal what I've got. Let’s see, a Druid with 6 open, what could it be?
He drops Totem of Decay at the end of my turn. Didn't see that coming. I respond with Finkle for some fodder and exhaust Myriam for five more to his hero. Myriam lives for another day. If he's got Ras'fari I'm in big trouble. He's holding three cards, what could they be?
Mad, turn 6: That EoT Finkle was a good play. With the Totem out, I would love to draw a Ras'fari. Of course, I draw a Death Shock instead. So it looks like I have to wait again and see what he plays to try and respond enough to regain some footing. If he Myriam’s into my Totem, at least I’ll have a turn of repreive and I’ve got the cards to deal with more allies. This is tight, we’ll see… I think for a second before I pass the turn that maybe I should row my Purge so I can have enough resources to kill 2 allies his turn if he plays them (Death + Earth Shock), but no, that’s my GoTW protection.
Borb, turn 7: I draw Miner Steelwhiskers. Well, I've got a choice to make here. I decide to play it safe and kill the Totem with Myriam. I drop out both Steelwhiskers and the Anchorite. He Death Shocks Anchorite so I'm glad I played around the Shock earlier.
Mad, turn 7: Yup, I draw a Voss. I'm going to have a talk with him once this game's done about punctuality. I play Voss and hold my Earth Shock to pass the turn over to him.
[DAMAGE TOTALS: Borbwab, 3; Madjinn, 13]
Borb, turn 8: Draw Cyclone. I Myriam him for another 5. I decide to go for it: he doesn't have a third Death Shock. I row the Cyclone and drop out Inventor Dorbin. I kill Voss with Steelwhiskers and pass to him.
He's got 2 cards so my chances are pretty good, I feel. If he's got the Shock he's still very much in this, if not, I think I've got it. Doing my math, I can still Gift of the Wild and even if he's got a way to clear Myriam this turn, I've got this.
Mad, turn 8: I draw a Perdition's and a little more deja vu. I can play the Blade to kill his Steelwhiskers, but that's still ten damage coming my way next turn regardless. I can't kill Dorbin without striking into him. So that's game.
Winner: Borbwab
End of Match Wrap-up
Borbwab:
At the end of his last turn, Mad dropped Perdition's to kill Steelwhiskers and then scoops. He's holding an Earth Shock and Purge and I reveal the Gift of Wild I held all game.
The smoke clears and my DEFENSE deck holds up. Can’t wait for another crack at this. But for now, I need some much needed sleep.
Madjinn:
I was plagued with bad draws, but it's still pretty obvious this is a difficult match-up. Borb was playing a version of the blue GotW/Myriam deck, which is rising up to be a strong contender for Realms. My deck played a lot like Lionar in this match-up... the only probelm is Lionar would have handled it better. Had I seen Myriam earlier, I could have sided in Terror Pit, which is an advantage I have over Lionar.
As always, though, loses always teach you more than victories. Perdition's didn't do the trick for me. The original Storm Shock wouldn't have saved me either, but the Mass of McGowan would be much better anti-Myriam and anti-ally tech in general, so that's going in for the Blade. Voss, I think, is coming out for Chill in the maindeck, which means I'll have to test some new sideboard material.
Regardless, Borb's an awesome player and I dug his deck. Again, I had a lot of fun this Throwdown and hopefully it made a good read. 'til next time.
