So, A new Format? Not really.
Posted On 05/08/2008 11:56:14 by LIGHTNINGBLITZ

As you should all know, we have a mid format ban list change.

From Shriek:

BANNED: Dimension Fusion
LIMITED: RftDD
SEMI: Allure

What did this do?

This was aimed to stop Dark Armed Dragon but what did it really do? Force players to use innovation. DaD is still a great in-game removal weapon. A deck structured for this can potentially be just as powerful. The return was just easier to use and quicker to win with.

Our format has really just lost some speed, and now with the new light lords we may still encounter a simmular problems of one supreme arch-type.

Pros and Cons

+The format is slowed down.
+No more DMoC RFG abuse
+Makes it slightly more skill orientated

-The issue of DaD is still their
-Judgement dragon can be just as dad
-We could have had some better card choices

Card choices?

In my opinion, Allure did not need to be cut. Actually, he is just support. Other Draw cards like D-Draw have earned their place above it. D-Draw gve great speed in more than one format, much more than Allure has done.

Power cards like DaD, DMoC and other Dark Monsters are still at the full amount. The other dark support is hard to get, while the return cards were more obtainable making room for fun decks.

Damage control

This is not a big deal. I dont like the changes but I do thing return had to be addressed and this did it. With these cards out of the way I am interested in these possibilities:

Escape From the Different Dimension
DMoC Loop
DDR Return

Those cards and plays can be just as powerful as DaD return. Only time will tell how this will play out.

Ice, I could see #2, but cutting the support cards, like what was done with Dark Return.

As much as I am pleased with the nerfing of DAD, I think that now LS are going to dominate the format until September, where I see two possibilities:

1) UD restricts Judgement Dragon. Format is more balanced but rich players who bought 3 are not happy.

2) UD sides with the rich players and we end up with 6 months more of chaos.

Kane, as I said it slowed the format down. We all understand more decks will be played but their are still DaD Ruturn decks that are playable. DaD is still a great card and in a new dedicated deck it can be great, just as now. DDR can be stopped but it was one idea out of three I listed. All players will not run Macro to stop lightlords. This is all too situational.

i think this new changes are really cool for all reasons that all we know, but the problem is the new cards of LODT because Judgment dragoon will be the new DAD and i hope tha players wont abuse of that.

Umm wow you can swarm with one monster...I dust tornado you ddr...-2 to you lol. Dmoc loop isnt possible exept with 2 DDR. Lightlords can be stopperd by macro. More varied decs can fianally be played etc.
