Lost Format: New Monarchs
Posted On 05/07/2008 12:06:39 by LIGHTNINGBLITZ
When Caius hit the shelf I was first to get 3 copies. Why? He is an amazing monarch. Not only is he good in a normal monarch deck, but has potential in other decks. Of course, I dont mean any cokie-cutters (CC) but I am speaking of innovation.

For reference, Caius:

Dark Burn

Caius has an amazing effect that can be abused. He can remove any card, then, if it is a dark monster your opponet looses 1000 lp. Currently most decks are burn. But, if you build a dark burn decks you can remove your own cards.

Monster line-up Example:

3x Giant Germ
3x Caius
1x Sangan
3x Stealth Bird

A dark burn also leaves room for a little card I call game ender, or CCV. It is expensive but the speed of a caius burn and the power of CCV could make this a top-tier deck.

Other cards to include would be Mask of Darkness. In Burn you have a ton of traps, this just follows the theme. CCV is such a game ending card, why not deck these for it. Worst comes to worst you get back another powerful trap.

In a Monarch deck

Classic monarchs, without PC, was always a good deck. Then, Raiza was limited and we are in a new format.  Caius can change that. Being Dark he can abuse the cards like Allure of Darkness that give Dark Return Speed. This monarch deck can be built like a normal Monarch deck.

I do have one problem with this old-raiza moarchs: PWWB. Spin does not work when most cards are special summond. Try Raigeki break. Over fill your opponets grave to prevent DaD.

Dark Return

You all saw this commin'. Caius is dark and removes cards from the game. Sounds like a simple combo.

Caius has many uses. In Burn, Return or normal CC monarchs. The problem is, it is not used. At least consider this card before the decks sell off the shelves.

THX Neptheys. Removing your own monsters is alittle tricky but can be useful in a return deck.

Nice article. Caius can be good, and I never really thought of removing my own monsters.
