TMP: Mono Red Crematorium
Posted On 04/22/2008 21:14:37 by reubs11 - Read 20128 time(s)

I was discussing idiotic MODO drafters*, Baconator versus BK Wrapper** and the fact that he won the 2 Headed Giant event at the Shadowmoor prerelease*** with my friend Jon Swearingen when he brought up the fact that he would like to diScard a Greater Gargadon to Cragganwick Cremator in the new Standard. Ten to the dome plus a 5/4 for only four mana seems good.

Then I told him about my dream play with Gargadon in the new Standard of suspend Gargs, then play Mogg War Marshall on turn two and follow it up on turn three with Giantbaiting. You'll be attacking with two 4/4s (after Conspiring off the Goblin tokens) on turn three, but that's not the end of the story. The Gargadon gets those tokens to munch on at the end of the turn, not to mention the Mogg War Marshall that made the Gob tokens. Add to that the two turns it's been suspended and that means you only have five counters left on that Gargadon by the end of your third turn.

This makes for an exciting turn 4 if you have a Pandemonium in your hand.

Throw in a few other cards that combo well with Pandemonium and Gargadon then throw in a few undercosted burn spells and there you have it!

Crematorium

4 Greater Gargadon
4 Tattermunge Maniac
4 Mogg Fanatic
4 Rift Bolt
4 Mogg War Marshall
4 Keldon Marauders
4 Giantbaiting
3 Flame Javelin
3 Pandemonium
2 Cragganwick Cremator

17 Mountain
4 Mutavault
3 Zoetic Caverns

Let me know what you think.

*3rd pick Titan's Revenge?!

**I pick Spicy Baconator. Mmmmm... delicious...

***basically by himself, he would add.

Botkiller you don't really know the actually ability of marshall do you? when u fail in paying the echo cost you still get a goblin token and that allows you to conspire with the two tokens. I don't agree in playing twenty-four lands.

I would replace the caverns for three incinerates. This allows you to at least you have another source of burn. I would also switch out a pandemonium for a cremator so you again can get some damage to your opponets skull.

We have been playtesting a similar deck like this. Several differences is that we are only running with three giantbaiting , not four. We are also running a full set of Cragginwick considering that he makes it possible to make Gargadon better by not playing him on the board. Essentially doing nine points of damage or eightteen. Also we are playing a full set of Flame Javelin too. This increases you damage portential four you fourth and fifth turn. Pandemonium is a two of as it isn't really necessary except in drawn out aggro matches. That's what we found with our playtesting anyway.

This deck is reeally fast and has playtested well.

Nice Ruebs!

I don't see how you can play Giantbaiting on turn 3 with conspire. You'd either have to pay the echo cost for the War Marshal to have two creatures in play, leaving you with insufficient mana to play the Baiting, or not pay its echo and be left with only one creature, unable to conspire.

Also FYI, Cremator deals damage equal to the discarded creatures power, not casting cost.

Considereing Big Mana Ramp etc... type decks are very popular at the moment I really don't see this deck being viable.  It also looks to have a really bad matchup against Faeries.

I think you want instant speed incinerate instead of rift bolt in case you are on the back foot and need to play burn defensively to buy the last turn for the combo.  I don't think the extra colorless matters.

I like the deck though, mmmmm burn spells..

Zoetic cavern seems really bad, even in a list like this. You want to curve, so I understand avoiding cipt lands, and you want a decent number of lands to ensure that you hit curve. I guess they shock if you have a pandemonium down, but they still seem godawful.
Also spitebellows may have a home in this list someplace. It is ok on its own, good with gargs, and phenomenal with pandemonium.

1. spicy baconator is certainly the correct pick there

2. i like the deck and have been a fan of gargadon forever.  isn't zoetic cavens very meh though?  i've never actually played a gemstone caverns, but this seems like an ok spot to try a couple.
