The reason I found Magic to be so hard to play
Posted On 04/20/2008 10:23:43 by Cradle_Of_Fish - Read 107 time(s)
As folks who have read my past blogs know, I found MTG to be very difficult to understand. Part of the reason being I am not the sharpest tack in the bunch. But I think that actually has little to do with me not getting how to play. The big reason was there was no one (at that time) interested in it besides me (I was in a small town then) and thus no one to play with. Also the game was new back then (yep it was that long ago, I haven't tried playing it since) so there was no "pros" to teach me how to play. Of course I am older and possibly (doubtful, hehe) smarter. Should I pick up the game again? I mean I am learning how to play WoW and folks say it is similar to MTG. Of course I won't abandon playing WoW or Eye Of Judgment (and just started playing Pokemon again, I like easy to understand and follow games, I don't care if they are meant for kids, I need easy, but am willing to learn the hard stuff, got a tourney where the folks are gonna teach me how to play WoW TcG properly). If anyone actually reads this and has a comment or thinks I should try MTG once again (I hear it has like a million expansions and rules updates and such) by all means reply.

Well, I'm an avid magic player, but I've been playing for a long time. I do think it's the best TCG out there (I've tried almost all of the big ones, never did get to try WoW yet though, and I do plan to eventually) in my humble opinion, of course. The big thing though is that it is a hard game to learn and it's a bad idea to try and play it competitvely until you've got a firm grasp on how the game works, because some really crazy stuff can happen in the game, and the rules about timing and things are awfully confusing until you figure them out... Hell, i had been playing the game for six years before starting to play competitively, and then it turned out I hardly knew anything about the rules. _

So.. yeah, that may not be the best pitch for the game, but I still love it, and I do think that if you get some friends of the same skill level to play with you, you can have a great time with it. =)
