There was supposed to be a short announcement of this in David Whitelaw's most recent article under his section "Question of the Week," where I was to briefly address the issue of "What happened to Riki?" The section was cut by the editor. Here is the text that was supposed to appear:

"Dave asked me to prepare a short statement to print in his article. A 'short' statement by Riki Hayashi; that's laughable. My time here at TCGplayer.com has been anything but short. During my almost three years here as a feature writer (and even longer as a forum member then moderator) I've presided over several periods that were supposed to be 'the death of TCGplayer.' A lot of people will try to make this out to be another such period, my leaving coming on the heels of the departure of other heavy hitters like Bill Stark and William Spaniel.

"Those people are wrong.

"In fact, one of the reasons I feel comfortable in leaving now is because the future of TCGplayer has never been brighter thanks to articles like the one you're reading today. Dedicated writers like David Whitelaw, his TCGpprentice cronies, and Kuan-Kuan Tian represent one of the strongest crops of amatuer talent that this site has seen in a long time. The future Stark, Spaniel, and Hayashi (nice law firm name!) are growing up right before your very eyes. Enjoy the journey.

"For those of you who have read and supported me over the years, thank you. As Q says to Picard at the end of the final episode of Star Trek: TNG, 'See you... out there.' "

I know I made some noise about this last summer and ended up staying on, but this time it's final. I've already been relinquished of my responsibilities as feature writer and moderator (but not editor because as I keep telling you, I'm not). And I've made my arrangements to move on elsewhere following a brief break to recharge and put together some of my new ideas.

Man.... I feel like I missed a great writer, darn my late coming to the site...... Good luck!!!!!

Just now reading this, and though it's unlikely that you'll see this post, just wanted to let you know that you will be missed. A fine moderator, and an outstanding writer, you were the reason that I started coming to Brainburst many years ago. All the best.

I'm only just now finding out about your departure. I, along with the entire BB community will miss your articles, as well as your distinct presence in the forums. I've enjoyed talking with you over the years, and I've appreciated your insights and comments when it comes to my articles. I hope you will continue to post here and there, and I wish you success with whatever ventures you decide to undertake.  If I can say I've made any friends here on this site, you would be on the list of anons that I can say I actually feel like I know. add the fact that I have met you in person, for whatever brief a stint, and I would have to say that counts for something.

Again, wishing you the best.

I hoped this would have a much wider audience than its current format, since it should be posted on the main page with a proper send-off.

Enough hand-wringing, you will be missed.

And TCGplayer definitely will not be the same without you.  I feel like I have participated here at TCGplayer for about as long as you have been featured.  My entire TCGplayer experience has always included something from Risky somewhere.  Now, that will no longer be the case.

Best of luck in your future endeavors, and I hope that you receive all of the thanks you deserve for your hard work and commitment to TCGplayer.

As all of the TCGpprenti can attest, without you, we would not be here...

Here is what I wrote directly in response to Riki's statement from that article...

'I could go on here about how losing Riki is a massive blow to the site. I could also go on about how much we will miss his writing, for which I do not have enough superlatives. But I won’t. What I will say is that I have now known Riki for over a year and he has changed my life in ways I would not have thought imaginable. He was the person behind the awesome TCGpprentice without which you would not be reading the amazing writing of Zaiem, Robin and Thomas. He nurtured each of us and was there as a constant support to me as he continues to be. He was my mentor and he is my friend, one which I am proud to have.  And you would not be reading these words if it was not for him. He has left TCGplayer in a much, much better place than it was when he joined and I am sure his presence will be felt here in many years to come. So thank you Riki and best of luck in all your future endeavours.'

:frown: I kept hoping the other shoe wouldn't drop, the delay kept my hopes up... thinking I might see your icon at the top of the featured page some quiet Monday, but it is not to be. Best of luck Riki...
