defeating the dragon part 2
Posted On 03/19/2008 16:35:08 by tdawg84

As everyone who follows yugioh knows, the dark armed dragon return deck has taken over the scene. i mean 26 of the top 32 decks at Costa Mesa contained the dark armed dragon.  Also as i previously stated where does that leave the financially challenged player at even the local level.  Since it is Spring Break for me, I have had time for these thoughts to brew and i have thought of a few decks that can possibly provide competition to the dragon return deck.  As i kept thinking it soon became visible that decks that used to do really well were many of the decks i was thinking of but simply evolved.  Heres my top 5 not including burn or volcanic gadget.  Also though there are some very expensive cards in my decks shown, none of them are absolutely necessary as you can play around with cards but use the same concepts.  These are mainly just overviews of decks i'll be covering in future blogs

5 Zombies
It seems like it was just a couple months ago that zombies were the in thing that was feared at every shonen.  Wait it was.  Its just that zombies were not that consistent and also had problems dealing with monsters bigger then the standard 2400.  I think that the zombie player needs to throw more tricks in their sleeve and I have mainly two builds for this- these are just general builds to show the goal, my advice is to try whatever you can. (O as a noteI also wont be covering oppression gadgets or samurais as many others have spent time on those.)

Build 1
3 ryu kokki
1 il blud
2 dragon ice

3 zombie master
3 goblin zombie
3 pyramid turtle
1 morphing jar
1 card trooper
1 spirit reaper

3 book of life
3 card of safe return
1 monster reborn
1 premature burial
3 creature swap
1 foolish burial
3 lightning vortex

1 torrential

1 mirror force

3 raigeki break

2 phoenix wing wind blast

This deck just trys to abuse card of safe return but also tries to swarm the field consistently.  Dragon ice and goblin zombie r husge and make this deck a highly explosive build.

Build 2

Im not going to put an exact decklist for deck two but instead of the ices and goblin zombies it use green baboon, giant rats and nimbles.  While it is similar to the first build it adds much more consistency and staying power to the field.

4 Bazoo  Dark Return
Again im not going to post a build yet but just think about your matchups with dark decks most of the time it is not the dark armed dragon that kills you but the return.  Bazoo is a more consistent(dont have the drawback of having to manage your graveyard) alternative that i could see winning at the top level.  i mean you dont have to manage your graveyard so you can go even further on speed and run merchants with the other dark monsters.

3 Horus decks
Ok is it just me or are the dark decks and most decks today fueled by spells.  Also most of the time they take a turn or two to really get rolling.  If you can bring horus level 8 to the field faster then they can bring the dragon and tech out he dragon build with things such as solemn judgment,d.d. crows and my body as a shield.  Or you could run full lockdown with destiny hero plasma and jinzos.  Some other tech cards I could see would be level modulation (with foolish, its funny)  also a dragon heavy build can be really funny with five headed dragon

2 Phantom explosion
Again not posting a decklist yet but the key is like regular magical explosion but instead of using d heros combine it with a phantom deck using phantom of chaos.  More to follow in another blog

1 counter fairy

Yes its true, counter fairy is a timeless deck that can give fits to any deck just based on the cards.  ill cover more in another blog as to how to increase speed and relevance but yea

My advice is simply to try everything or go out and spend

Yeah, Rainsayre is right, you have to properly summon Horus onto the field first. Man, this is like the basic rules.

You can't foolish Burial Horus LV8 then use Level Modulation on him. He has to be summoned normally first.

You can't foolish Burial Horus LV8 then use Level Modulation on him. He has to be summoned normally first.
