Wait a minute. A concealed gem can’t be an unaffiliated 8-drop…or can it? The power of Alpha and Omega sure is. Thanos here is my favourite 8-drop. Even though there are plenty of 8-drops out there, I’m definitely loving KO’ing opposing characters. For some weird reason his effect is cosmic, however I’ll find it unlikely that he’ll ever get to attack after he was stunned. But KO’ing half of each opponent’s characters is awesome. If you want to go completely nuts, you can mix it up with Reset, and KO and opposing field nearly. Even without that, you attack the second largest opposing character, and either they KO their largest or they KO the defender and his effect is allowed to trigger all over again! His effect is definitely a game-winner, sometimes even without the imitative. He overpowers his 8-drop enemy, Dr. Doom by a few points, so your opponent will most likely have trouble double attacking through him. It’s also great that he mixes so well with the Infinity Gauntlet (stun the defender), even though a single Pathetic Attempt messes that all up. Even though, Thanos is one of the few high drops that doesn’t get screwed over by that card. Even the huge Galactus falls to the hands of a Pathetic Attempt, even though he is the endgame for nearly ever stall-build. Thanos is pretty much comparable to Onslaught, only that he comes a turn earlier and doesn’t do quite as much damage. He will easily win you the game though. What’s really tough about a character like this, is that because he’s unaffiliated, he can’t be searched out by many cards, I actually use Silver Surfer (2-drop) to fetch a copy of mine, but I’m sure others would try and use Crisis on Infinite Earths and Mobilize. Nevertheless, Thanos is an 8-drop worth taking a look at. His effect is very devastating, but I’m sure he might get hit my a copy of Only Human.. That’d suck.
