The one peculiar thing about Shards drafting, is that similar to Poker you must adjust your behavior to you competitors. I think this is much more true then for previous draft formats such as Shadowmoor and Lorwyn. There are multiple reasons for this: a) A lot of unplayables. If people at the table are competent and unwilling to take unplayables over cards that are decent but off color, then you can often be struggling for that 22nd or 23rd. b)You have to draft more fixing. Recently my Magic Schedule looked like something of the following Sept 28 PreRelease Oct 3rd Release Oct 10 PTQ Oct 17 GP Kansas Oct 24 PTQ So it seemed like a good idea to try and practice for these events. I arrived in Columbus with low expectations, as my previous Limited “achievements” amount to prerelease flight wins and a PTQ top 8 off the back of a sealed Pool where maybe 6 of my MD cards weren’t first pickable in draft.
