Didn't feel motivated enough to write a report about the San Diego PTQ last weekend, but some of my experiences in that event are relevant in a discussion of my most recent list. Thus, a quick summary before I discuss the PTQ I played yesterday. Here's the list I played last weekend: 4 Mistbind Clique3 Scion of Oona3 Sower of Temptation3 Spellstutter Sprite2 Puppeteer Clique2 Shriekmaw2 Vendilion Clique4 Bitterblossom4 Cryptic Command4 Nameless Inversion4 Thoughtseize7 Island5 Swamp4 M... With every new expansion comes with many deck concepts waiting to be unlocked. DAD, Beast-warriors & lightsworn decks are just flooding every tournment, eating away the top 8 positions. Syncro decks though new, are starting to pick up positions for themselves marking the sucess of syncro decks. With my weekly tournment coming up, i desperately looked through my stack of old cards. Thoughts of the 3 dominating decks never seem to vanish, i was forced to choose 1 of those three to... Read More
I've been too lazy/unmotivated/emo to do any actual playtesting since the PTQs at PT Hollywood, and very disinterested in Lorwyn Block Constructed in general. However, I finally got to PTQ again after a long break, and as such I had to come up with a deck. A quick scan through the PTQ top 8 decks showed me that faeries is simply too good to not play. Seattle Regionals 2008 was a bit of a bit of an oddexperience, not only the tournament, but also the day in general. My ride knocked on my door at 8:20 AM,at which time I promptly woke up, threw on some flowered shorts, a long sleeveshirt, and a jacket. Of course Iwas mocked all day for this, but I digress. At the site I managed to find the rest of my deck. Here is what I played: Faeries 4 Mutavault4 Secluded Glen4 Underground River2 River of Tears2 Sunken Ruins2 Faerie Conclave4 Snow... Read More
After yet another frustrating Friday Night Magic where for the 74th time in a row I just can't seem to win, I went home determined two weeks ago to find a way to beat faeries and win one of these big events. I want to be a pro like my idol ST Vasquez. Someday I too aspire to have an 1800+ rating and be in the top 5 in Reno. I figured I needed an aggressive deck to try and beat faeries before they get rolling, so I wanted to play stuff like Goldmeadow Stalwart. The problem is that all the ex... Read More
