Title: The Nuck's
Tags: Constructed Possibilities
Blog Entry: This is my first ever blog, I plan on setting forth into the land of this as a career possibility though and would greatly appreciate and feedback I may get. By this time, everyone who has stared into the face of a Nucklavee rampaging into play, has figured out he's good. But, what exactly is he good for? He's a 6-drop 4/4 beast, of all things... not even an elemental? Oh how could you wizards? 6 mana for a recast-able cryptic command would have been so NOT broken... I'll explain that one in a few to those of you who didn’t follow. No, Nucklavee's creature type isn’t relevant in standard, but his effect definitely is relevant. He comes into play and gets you back a used cryptic command and either an incendiary command, firespout, or titan's revenge that lost the clash? WOW, that seems good. Yes, I said that right; he buys you another use of removal and a cryptic command. Possibly, NO, DEFINITELY the most powerful card in block. "But he costs six mana and isn't in a good color combination or a relavent creature type!" some have said. "But he locks down the board!" I reply grumbling angrily as I walked away. My first thought was to sneak Nuck’s into play with incandescent soulstoke then return a cryptic command to hand and some irrelevant red card, then cast the cryptic to counter a spell and bounce Knuck’s back to your hand again, ready to repeat it next turn. So to put it plainly, Nucklavee is the Nuck's!!!!(Nuts?!?!) Here is my experimental decklist that I have been toying with for a while now... Main Deck 2 Dusk Urchins 3 Farhaven Elf 2 Flamekin Harbinger 4 Mulldrifter 3 Nucklavee 1 Reveillark 1 Wispmare 2 Crib Swap 4 Cryptic Command 4 Firespout 2 Incendiary Command 3 Nameless Inversion 2 Torrent of Souls 3 Turn to Mist 3 Cascade Bluffs 2 Fire-Lit Thicket 2 Island 2 Mountain 3 Primal Beyond 4 Reflecting Pool 1 Swamp 3 Vivid Crag 4 Vivid Creek Sideboard 4 Consign to Dream 4 Kitchen Finks or Dawnglow? 4 Shriekmaw 3 Unknown I know the deck seems really inconsistent weak and bad against faeries, but I believe that it is a work in progress and has a chance to get to tier 1 status. It works by using the farhaven as mana excel and the excessive board sweepers to make it to late game. All the time using mulldifter/turn to mist/torrent of souls to draw cards. The dusk urchins is a weak filler as the 5th and 6th mulldrifter which wouldn’t be legal. But they do block prickly boggarts and shriekmaws that stick rather well. The late game is where this deck sets itself apart. In a single turn you can cast The Nuck's, regain a turn to mist and an incendiary command, then turn to mist Nuck's and return cryptic and torrent of souls in case he dies. After that it’s a lather, rinse, repeat cycle with turn to mist (obviously), Torrent of souls (if they kill him), and cryptic (counter and bounce Nuck's). If your opponent ever gets to no cards in hand, you lock them out with cryptic and Nuck's. Against Kithkin: The deck has solid outs to burrenton forge-tenders including casting firespout and incendiary command through him making him sac and casting the second... Against Elementals: Nameless/Cripswap their smokebraider, then out cryptic them with Nuck's. The match comes down to who has more mulldrifters and cyptics (can you guess who it is usually?). Against Faeries: It pretty much has no game against a good faerie hand; but I don’t know if there is anyway to fix it, at this point. The side board might include more Wispmares to deal with bitterblossom, but I'm not sold on that solving the problem. Against Doran: The crib swaps are the holy grails of “I win” in this match followed closely by the sideboarded consign to dream. Almost hard to lose with time walks on turn 3 and 4 isn’t it? Against Fast Elves: Very good odds of resolving a Firespout into a scoop from your opponent. Other than that, boarding in the consign and hoping to get to turn 3 firespout usually gets the win pretty easily. All-in-All this card is The Nuck's and is waiting to be broken even more? "Until next time, this is J.R. Byrum, breaking the cards, so you don't have to." Thanks to Evan Erwin for the amazing last line .
